That's because some of us actually played FFXI and know how endgame there actually functioned. The only reason why there was more to do in FFXI's endgame was because content was kept relevant for years through a combination of bad drop rates and lockouts that would put FFXIV's to shame.

That's not the point, the game shouldn't be content with telling its playerbase "ya take a load off bro, go play another game." Hell no this game should want to dominate your life and say forget any other game you would want to play, this game is your life. That is what games that provide profit seek to do. This game doesn't want you to play other games, because it if did what happens if you don't come back because the other game sucks the life out of you? Then they lost that customer. And while 1 customer isn't a big deal, when that happens to many that is a problem. That is why games do not let up on the content unless the game is dying or its a quell before a storm.... Verminion is no storm.

Sure not all of it was great as any game isn't, but if FFXI had a playerbase still, up to date graphics and animations, I would definitely be playing that now instead of this game. Also people need to stop saying this game is so "different" when it borrows things from FFXI that it needed to b successful with 2.0, it is made by the same company, and originally the save devs they pulled off of 11 to put on this game. So by definition, it is the fairest comparison you can make between games, this game isn't some magnificent snowflake as some devs would have you believe...

^^^ And why do they prompt that? Because some people should want to play this game so badly that they have to be told that lol.

They could have used some parts of FFXI to complement FFXIV, but FFXIV is a completely different game, aimed at a different market. Whether you like that or not, doesn't really matter... Most players in FFXIV would leave if it suddenly turned more into FFXI, trust me on that. What you think is fun, is boring, slow and grindy to most players.

Only way you can make a game like that, is if you focus 100% on the type of players that play/played FFXI, because otherwise you can't satisfy anyone... If they focused 100% on another game like FFXI, then it could have worked, and they could have had a very small player base (cause you can't get that many with this type of game) which were good supporters... but that's not the route they have chosen, because you don't get as much money out of an old style game like that.

I'm not saying FFXI is worse than FFXIV, just that the players are very different, and SE choose this route, so for this route it would be bad to follow FFXI on anything other than a couple of things.

Hikikomori, NEET, etc. I appreciate that this game, unlike XI, does not make me feel like I have to play it 8+ hours every day (or heck, even every day at all) in order to still be entertaining. If people are complaining about a lack of content my first assumption is that the content was either not geared toward them as an individual, or they were burning through it too fast.

You can't please 1% of the people 100% of the time.

    This kind of thread again...

Why don't people just apply and join the dev team and help them with content planning, programming, design arts, theme composing, copyrights, etc.

Or create a whole new game which satisfy y'all.

    And then people left.

I played FFXI for 4 years and had fun with it, but I'd never sign up to play a game like that again. In fact, FFXIV starting to feel like FFXI (everything being a grind) is what's making me leave.

I play FFXIV for fun, not as a second job.

Faf/Hogg is also just the tip of the iceberg of the issues with FFXI's endgame that are largely related to the horizontal gear system (bad drop rates and new good items rarely being added to the game) that the game had, including:

    - events requiring large groups where everyone just wants one item because the rest of the drops are crap.
    - many endgame events not dropping anything of worth for specific jobs.
    - too many endgame events requiring upwards of 2 hours of "work".

When you add all of this up you get an endgame system that's more of a job than fun because you have scheduled events most of the week, that you need to attend to not fall behind in points. Where most of the stuff you do doesn't even drop anything for your job. I'd much rather have FFXIV's endgame where I have the freedom of doing most content on my own schedule.

It's no wonder that most of FFXI's playerbase started flocking to small-scale events like Limbus/Nyzul Isle.
