I don't know if you've seen the recent LFR sets, but they're not overboard by any means. Impractical, perhaps, but that applies to 90% of the FFXIV armour sets and weapons too.

I'd definitely love a dyeable version of those sets, that's for sure.

The thing is, they don't have to look like the environment's theme. Diabolos is red and black, why can't we get a red and black armour set? I'd prefer each set be designed off of a mob/boss to be honest. That makes more sense, since we're getting the armour from them and not carving out the ship and making armour that way.

The only thing I'm seeing from the LFR sets (they're probably the wrong ones, tbh) is typical Blizzard pauldrons the size of shields and massive shoulder spikes. Impractical is in nearly every fantasy game ever, but Blizzard and those they've inspired take designs to a very unique height. There's nothing wrong with it, but I personally dislike the look of it. I stray away from the more extreme designs in XIV as well.

Which leads to your other point. We had gear based off boss design. And besides the dress, Syrcus tower gear glamours didn't last very long and even the dress died out fairly quickly. I very rarely run across anyone glamouring a piece of any of those sets.

As opposed to the World of Darkness sets which are for the most part, boring? The only armour set I see from WoD that's glamoured is the tank one, and that's due to being the only one that actually looks amazing. Syrcus Tower gear was a mess, I'm asking for them to be based off the boss, not a direct rip of their body (that MNK set... shudders). The problem lies in the sets being poorly designed in the end, I'd willing to every last bit of my gil that the majority of these sets will barely be seen in the open world once 3.2 rolls around.

As for the LFR sets, yeah the massive Blizzard pauldrons still exist, but they're more mild than most.

The thing is that when I see that, I can see that it clearly belongs to a Hunter, it fits their theme incredibly well. How does that MNK/NIN gear even look like something they'd wear? Those thigh boots would sure restrict mobility, the unnecessary shoulder pad, that ridiculously ugly hat, etc. The casters look like they're wearing bard gear, and the bard looks like they're wearing some dark scholar's shredded clothes (who thought it would be a good idea to put on shredded clothes to begin with?).

I liked the WoD sets except for the NIN/MNK one (as usual--I'm almost never happy with them). I glamoured the healer robe for quite some time because it's one of the few slim robes.

I do think the WoD sets did a nice job of being thematic without being too focused on a narrow color palette, like these new sets are. But my biggest gripe with the new sets isn't so much color as it is the general blandness of the NIN/MNK and BRD/MCH sets. The caster/healer and tank sets have some interesting accents and the like in terms of shape, but those other three are just far too plain (and they don't really seem all that fitting for PGL and NIN either, imo).
