Getting rid of surnames

Believe it or not, there are at least four people on Mysidia who have the name "Uni". (myself included) Because of that I'm all for keeping surnames, as they allow for more diversity in name choices. (I sure as hell never want to spend 2 hours just trying to FIND a name that isn't being used like I did in FFXI) Seriously, those who want to get rid of them are just saying "I already have a named character, to hell with everyone else."

Edit: just looked up players with first name Uni on FFXIVpro.com, going down the list for Mysidia we get the following:

Puni Uni
Uni Kitty
Uni Que
Uni Maru
Uni Neko
Sanction Uni
Uni Makaron
Uni Don
Uni Qlo
Unico Morimori
Unico Votton

So actually, there are six other Unis on my server who I would have to assassinate in order to keep my name if SE removed surnames, it would enter into myth and legend as one of many savage bloody chapters in the name wars.

Im against getting rid of surnames, mine was very carefully picked.

Without surnames, we wouldnt be able to choose a name at all, remember how hard it was at xi. Rmt had so many names taken xD

what i find most interesting is you're assuming a space bar STOPS those kind of names.

people will always be idiots. and its not worth discussing.

Perhaps you're not playing the same game I am...but it in fact HAS stopped those kinds of names for the most part. There's a lot of folks with names that actually make sense rather than look like ridiculous chatroom names.

And again, instead of evading by talking about a space bar, literally EXPLAIN how having one name, where people's choices often get taken and have to resort to the ridiculous or the "username" style names, makes a game more immersive (immersive meaning you the player are more drawn into the game's world) than having two names like we do in the real world.
