Getting rid of surnames

The argument that a singular name actually enhances a 'full choice' of names - The purpose of choice is for someone to be able to choose what they want and get it. With one-word names, anyone who has taken a particular name will then remove that choice from another player. With the surname option, you can have the first name and last name of your choice, allowing more versatility in your characters name and letting you get the name of your choice. This 'should' make you happy. To remove surnames is to LIMIT your choice for a name, not enhance it.

I can see the flaws with 1 named characters but would still argue for the option. Because ulitmatly it IS more choice.

No. It's not feasible, because putting a system in place to force everyone that chose the same name second (or third, or fouth and so forth) to change their name would be a PR disaster, and an immense waste of resources, for something that the majority (as you may have noticed on your own redundant thread, because the idea has already been shot down before) doesn't even want.

Even more silly to do so with the PS3 launch, as it would basically be telling new PS3 players "hey, you'll never have the name you want, because PC players have been around before you"

Age Of Conan had this problem when they were merging servers. The entire community went into an uproar. It didn't end well.

Which would just cause confusion. This kind of basic thing requires to have one rule and have everyone follow it. It's a simple rule of game development.

FFXIV isn't life, it is a game, games are designed for enjoyment and to give you the things you want so you can enjoy it.

I did mention in one of the first posts in the thread that giving the player the option to have a last or not would be a good idea.

I will however admit that I had not associated the post i was replying to with the post you had made previous to it so I misunderstood what you were saying and made a response based on that misunderstanding. For that I am sorry.

I did however put in a suggestion that would allow any player to have any name they wanted with no real limitations, which would satisfy everyone I'd imagine.

It died when an MMO came out that stole both it's original design from something else and incorporated an endless supply of pop-culture references that filled the game to the point where hardly anything in the game was not stolen from something else.

But it actually works with WoW well. Fits by nature, doesn't bother me when I play it. It bothers me though in any other MMO though. WoW has special privileges though.

You do not get it. The fact that it's technucally doable on a server that houses a hundred employees that don't care crap what they're named as they test doesn't mean that it's feasible on live servers with thousands of players that would be inconvenienced.

No, no. You say most people wouldn't rename because surnames are enjoyed by the majority. Yet at the same time say this isn't feasible because the majority would be inconvenienced.
