Oooo, I wondered about those. I kept expecting one of them to come leaping out in a black mage outfit during the Ul'dah opening cut-scene, since they have the same round glowing eyes.

Well in FFXI they were used for the Puppetmaster job, they fought alongside the Puppetmaster, but I have no idea what they do in FFXIV lol.

Yeah, the Allagan Empire existed 1000 Years ago and was destroyed during the 6th Umbral Era. Whilst the Garlean Empire was just a remote and sparsely populated nation who held little than a fraction of the Northlands just 50 years ago, until the emergence of a young Brilliant Legatus and the Technological Golden Age.
