Weekly caps should'nt be a thing. They're only there as a draconian attempt to keep people subscribed and, while it may work on some people, it doesn't really work on me. I just find it discouraging. If there wasn't any weekly cap I'd be working on more alternate jobs. *shrugs*

the trick is to raid and do esoterics, there is 200 gear from alex and 200 gear from eso, if you play your cards right, you can get the expensive 825 gear from alex, and the cheap-os from alex. do the math

Alternatives to it will be low drop rates (to the gear or to the tokens)

what do you mean by it doesn't work on you? are you saying you have already unsubscribed from the game?

this is a situation where the alternative is better for some but harmful to others. with no limits, there really are lots of people who have no self control who will grind like crazy, cap out on gear and unsubscribe till the next patch (and some unsubscribe and never come back) citing lack of content.

there simply isn't enough dev resources to create enough content to last to the next patch without lockouts.

what they can do halfway is to have the tome lockouts be job specific, that would require a pretty drastic redesign of the system though. would be interesting to see what the menu looks like.

With 12 classes it would take an age to cap out every class though. Ignoring gear sharing (it's been a long day at work) and assuming 6000 tomes per class, you need 72,000 to buy everything for every class. That's 1,800 Fractals (without roulette bonus), or around 650 hours of play time.

I don't see caps as beneficial once content has been cleared, they only frustrate and limit players (for instance those who level late or gear job A but switch to job B). From my perspective time caps just turn the players against the content as they're punished in game for not doing something (behind the curve with no way to catch up), rather than rewarded for doing it.

I'm hoping they do what they did with the poetic cap before Heavensward came out and double it to 900 at some point before the new capped tombstone drops. Although I'd be perfectly happy if they simply raised the cap to 500, capping 900 poetics took some work and Savage Alex isn't nearly as farmable as Final Coil was.

    There's 13 battle jobs though. >w>
If we factor in the fact we can share accessories and belts, the grand total for all the gear would be 58,125 tomes. With the current cap, it would take about 130 weeks to get. That's 32 months, which is almost 3 years. Granted, by that point, if what SE about releasing a new expansion yearly is true, the cap would probably be gone by then and the gear would be obsolete. >w>()

    My math:
    (990 *13) + ((825 * 2)13) + ((495 * 3)13) + ((375 *4)3) = 58,125 tomes
    58,125/450 per week = 129.16 weeks
    129/4 weeks of a month = 32.29 months
    32.29/12 months of a year = 2.69 years

While I don't like how small the cap is and the amount of tomes we get, I do like that we can cap in 6 days, giving us at least one day of rest. =w=

I can only speculate based on what they've done in the past and the knowledge now that they won't introduce the new currency until 3.2
Science and evidence work the opposite way my friend. The demonstrable and historical remain true and probable to a greater degree until evidence to the contrary can be shown. We don't need to disprove what is, rather the person questioning needs to validate a hypothesis. Statistically speaking the hypothesis that there will be no cap lift in 3.1 and that 3.2 will introduce new tomes has a greater chance probability wise than not because we can ascertain that historically this has been the way it has worked. Does this mean that it can't change? No, certainly not. But to imply that historical cycles need evidence of probability vs a completely unsubstantiated hypothesis that goes against them is fairly ridiculous. It's like saying Bigfoot exists because you can't prove he doesn't.

Like I said, long day at work <_<.

In any case, it'd just take even longer to max them all out.
