I really dislike the fact that people expect or resort to enticement to do something. It seriously just makes it seem like the devs are parents trying to make their kids (us) do their chores so that they can get their allowance. "If you take out the trash every week, you can take the car on the weekends" "Ugh! Fine! I hate you!"
In the end, if thats what it is goning to take for people to be able to play at a decent level, then thats what it takes, and what they should do. Its also more about "if you learn your job, you get a bonus". Your example is better suited to capping tomes and getting that eso piece.I really dislike the fact that people expect or resort to enticement to do something. Seriously? It's a video game. Stimulating reward pathways in the brain is literally the exact thing they hinge on.I really dislike the fact that people expect or resort to enticement to do something. I look at it the same way as I do the same exact mentality when it transitions to parenting (or even puppy training). If you set a certain idea upon the ones you are working with, they will expect the same results for every occasion that the same action or effort is placed. Why specifically reward something as simple as learning how to play? We're not babies learning to walk for the first time in our lives. Chances are, this also isn't the very first video game someone has played. Even if it is, you're probably old enough to understand the concept of reward. You know those pointless achievements you get for simply starting some games or doing something mandatory but simple? That's for them. I mean, we're not talking about 100% completing everything in the game here, we're talking about essentially passing a how-to-play tutorial lol.
I'm a career healer. I want big pulls. It puts me under pressure--this is how I learn the ins and outs of my class. So I encourage tanks I'm paired with to pull big and learn with me; turns out a lot of the timid tanks (this is an oxymoron for the MMO environment) I run into don't do it because they are afraid.

Maybe it's just me, but rewarding something for nothing doesn't promote better gameplay from people like that. If anything, it'd promote more rage lol. In order for them to pass this thing to get their reward, they'd have to be competent. Chances are, they won't know how to be if they're really as bad as you're lead to believe lol. Some people definitely are, but not enough to warrant getting something meaningful for nothing. That's just bad guidance. If you have that little faith... which is totally understandable, don't get me wrong, why would you think they'd suddenly be better at something they're already clueless of lol. It's essentially a carrot on a stick for them. In the end, this just ends up being more rewards for the competent players that already know what they're doing (more or less). Maybe that's the underlying agenda here... wanting more and giving the impression of helping others do better, when really it's always been about getting more for ourselves for as little as possible. That is natural, so no judging really.
