Can we get changes to the Market Board?

Things that you can't do that seem, frankly idiotic that you can't.


1) Post items on my own, why does the retainer do it?
2) Be able to use my bank storage while posting on said market board.
3) Buy just one of something, if I want one I should be able to buy 1 not like 54 of them and have to report them in hopes somebody else who wants one rebuys it.

There is glaring problems with the market board, and those problems (the complete user unfriendliness of it) make it so it's virtually dead even on large servers.

Can we get some changes to the market board?

1) Considering that retainers have been present since 1.0, I doubt that aspect of the market boards will change anytime soon. The team could have easily made changes there going into ARR, the fact that they didn't is fairly telling.

2) This would be nice but I have a feeling things with bank storage aren't up to the level they need to be for any additional functionality to be added yet. They straight up said the reason there aren't any guild chests in Ishgard is that it just can't take the strain that would cause.

3) ...the market boards are player run. If no one wants to sell individual units of an item, SE can't force it. Honestly what you do already is the best way to deal with it, I usually jack the price up a little on individual units if nobody else can be bothered to split their stacks a bit.

You could get more buyers if you give smaller stacks too. Sometimes I just need one glamour prism, not a stack of 4. I need 3 Morbol Vines, not 30 or 99!

No thanks. The way it is now actually creates a market where you can list small stacks at a premium price.

No that's exactly what I do XD
everyone always gives out stacks of 99... it's like, no way. So I just keep the price but then sell my items in tiny stacks. It's great

The Market Board is not an auction house, it's just a list of player-run (read: retainers) stores - think of it more like Amazon.com than ebay.

As for why SE has made it like this, it goes back to FFXI and how players absued the bazaar and Auction House systems there, to the point hyperinflation was rampant and out of control. And because players were using alt characters as bazaars, leaving them logged in while away from their computer/console (such as while sleeping or working), SE decided when FFXIV 1.0 was in development to actually remove the bazaar function from the player's own character, and placing that responsibility into a npc who will remain logged into the game even when the player's character is logged out.

Accordingly, in 1.0 there was a special Market Ward zone where retainers were placed, but the actual result was far less ideal (it was an absolute lag fest as well as being a nightmare to find anything). Hence when ARR was designed retainer stores were further streamlined into no longer physically appearing in an actual zone,so the Market Ward zones were abolished, but instead retainer shops were arranged in a list that could be easily searched - thus the Market Board was born.

I agree it can be further tweaked, but given the fact it's working reasonably well, I doubt we'll see an actual FFXI style Auction House added as it would just be superfluous.

If you suddenly change it where a person can stack 99 and sell one of each then they create 99 selling opportunities in that one slot, meanwhile armor/weapons/single stack items always remain as a 1-1 ratio, that's why that won't change.

I disagree with your reasoning. Inflation was out of control in FFXI for mainly the lack of two effective gold sinks. The first gold sink would be the necessity of repairing your gear for gold which FFXI did not have. The second was most gear was not bound on use (not sure if this was ever changed). You could use it and resell it at the current value and this lead to most gear changing hands without a reduction in price. There was not much incentive to craft new gear to cash out since the materials for higher level stuff dropped from lengthy rare spawns (NM).This lead to items getting into the millions of gil even for things like basic gear. This was the case of affairs when I quit during chains of promathia.

I actually make *more* gil selling in singles or stacks of 5 depending. What multiple is it used in? Split into stacks of that.

Two reasons I prefer market in other games: I'm not limited to 20 items/stacks per retainer. This is why people sell stacks of 99. Fewer slots used.

And... Notably in wow: I can use a smartphone app or add-on in game to automatically list multiple items. Oh, I have 530 cloth and want to sell it in stacks of 5? Stack size: 5 stacks*click maximum button* set price per unit(app will auto undercut by 1cp for you), click list. Win.
