Why does it matter who the real seller is?The one thing I would like to see is an adjustment to retainers as the only entity that can list items. The problem with retainers is that it keeps the real seller anonymous. If we must use retainers to list things on the MB, you should be able to "click through" on the name of the retainer and see who they report to.
+1 to AlphaFox regarding improving the MB search function. They should implement the exact algorithm used by XIVDB.

Retainers are already certain NPCs
You can find my retainer on Ragnarok in Lavender Beds, if you want ^^
Or do you mean more something like this, all retainers gathered in a room?

They are, by definition, NPCs. NPC = non-player character. The only differences from other NPCs is that they are yours and that you can call them to your location (as long as there is a bell).
The real question is, why do you mind using retainers for selling stuff? It's EXACTLY the same as selling it through an NPC.

While retainers are non-playable they are different from the npcs that populate the world. I made sure to call out that distinction. Please don't ignore that. The whole point is to streamline a very archaic and clunky system. Many many other games do it.They are, by definition, NPCs. NPC = non-player character. The only differences from other NPCs is that they are yours and that you can call them to your location (as long as there is a bell).

EDIT: I'd say go one step further and have buying and selling done at the market board. Forget world NPCs and retainers all together.
just bring the FFXI AH system over.

*Complains that things can't be bought in singles*
*buys stack, uses one, resells as stack on mb instead of singles*
Can't wrap my head around this logic. Anyhow the stacks are usually cheaper "per" item than singles due to the nature of bulk demand. The option to buy a single at "stack price" would be essentially ripping off the seller. I'm contrast singles usually sell for higher costs due to both post limitations (sale limits per retainer) and lower sums (total cost vs stacks) This is why you have people who sell singles make more money per item.
Regardless I don't think you should be able to buy a single from a stack. You certainly can't do it in real life in most cases.
