I have to admit, I main healer myself, but not all the time can I predict when a pack of mobs is going to die. Sometimes I throw a regen out and I realize it's right as the last mob dies, I have a slight lag issue with my connection. I hate when this is the case, as I don't like the tank having to run in with regen, but I'm always glad to see when a tank does click it off. I never cast when they are running to pull, unless I'm scholar or in nocturnal sect (the shields can make a difference) and only when I know the cure will hit before the mob is pulled for a shield. But never a regen.
If you try to fail and succeed, which have you done?
Sounds like he missed the memo that there are some things "first time" doesn't get you out of. -.- Personally, if I use regen, I try to time it so it runs out right before the last mob dies. Sometimes I go over, but unless it's a dungeon I'm still relatively new with, it usually isn't by more than a second or two.
Also:
This somehow made me picture Snowcloak with Cirno as a boss.

I'm guilty. But that's because I try to make the math judging by the damage the party is doing and suddenly near the end AOE start flying and the damage seems to double and the tank end the fight having like 8-5 seconds of Regen...
TBH.... If the healer casts Regen (or MedicaII) close to the end of the fight it doesn't really matter. If there's a longer run to the next group or boss, it'll most likely fall off before then. If it hasn't fallen off when you get ready to pull the next mobs? Just click it off (and hope you don't have a healer who goes "Oh no! My HoT fell off! Better re-apply!" Though... If I do, I just stand there, clicking off Regens until s/he gets the point ^_~). It's not really that tricky.
It's worse when I'm healing ^^; Going 'damn' if I cast a Regen late in the fight so it's still up at the next pull... or if I accidentally mis-click and hit regen instead of Stoneskin*, and I see the tank just running ahead without clicking it off >.< But on the other hand, I'm not one of those "aaaah! it's chasing me! what do I do!" people ^^; Since my first role in this game was tank, I learned the hard way what happens when people run away from the tank when they have aggro. (Not to mention what happens if you don't stop attacking said mob... Looking at you, <50 ARC/BRD, kiting all around the room while yelling at the tank to get it off them...) Maybe I should start doing that when strange tanks run in with six seconds of Regen left... >:3 To see if they learn something...
*) Yeah, I know Stoneskin's been nerfed... but since my first healer go-to has always been Scholar, it didn't really change that much for me ^_~
I actually really like when tanks toggle off the regen if it still ticks after the mobs are dead. I always try not to use regen when the mobs will die in under 15 secs or so but sometimes mistakes happen and mobs die faster than I expected. Tanks like that are rare though, but if I see one they will get my commendation for covering up my mistake![]()
Yesterday on neverreap on my AST the tank pulls all mobs to the second jump which is normal. We kill evething no problem.
On the part where you see tornados for the first time, I was expecting to break the pull on two parts which is the normal, but he pulls all three packs.
Not a problem for me but I put regen on the tank prematurely.
Again not a problem, since I saw my mistake. I pop sprint and run after the tank so he can pick up any adds that come after ne.
I watched the aggro icons, I got aggro from one mob, got hit maybe once or twice. The only damage the dps takes are from aoes.
Nobody died, or dipped below 50% health. After all adds are dead the tank goes ballistic, complains about regen on pulls and ragequits.
Uh ok, is there some short of crusade going on?
Regen effects make me remember to check my buff bar before rolling into the next group. I hate when I forget to click it off and everything tries to kamikaze the healer.
As someone who mains AST and WHM, I cringe every time someone casts regen spells before a pull. The good and decent tanks normally can keep it under control, but when followed up immediately by CURE/BENEFIC II OVERHEALING SPAM things kinda go down the drain.
And I really hate it when I'm on my alt (59 PLD, 54 DRK), I've clicked the regens off and had the healer complain "Why did you remove the regen!?" Because I don't need it right now! Use it after I pull so all ticks will heal!
Then I get called an idiot and bad tank for not wanting regens up before pull. Yup.
Usually the only time I ever run into this is when you watch the tank pull, round up the group so you Regen then proceed to watch him run away and pull more then watch them all run over and attack me. Communication would be nice.
