Ranting about Regen

Speaking as someone who normally heals but started going tank for the daily roulettes, and seriously needs to rant here:

Look, I get it, heal-over-time spells are nice and all. You love them, hey, I love them too! So when I click off your Regen / Medica2 / Aspected Benefic / Aspected Helios outside of battle, it's NOT because I hate you and/or want you to feel bad. It's because I don't want to see every single mob EXCEPT the one I tagged make a beeline for you the instant Regen ticks, before I can start AoE'ing them, and I'm guessing you don't want them chewing on your face either. It gets even more awkward when I'm trying to pull multiple packs, since I'd REALLY rather not turn around to pick up those stragglers who decided you look delicious.

So please, PLEASE, don't cast Regen before the pull, or while the tank is still gathering up mobs. By all means, go nuts with it once the Flashes / Overpowers / Unleashes start flying, but not before that

And if you REALLY want to slack off, just go Scholar, summon your fairy, and autofollow someone.

And yes, I am fully aware that 99% of the people who need to be told this WON'T see this thread.

So much of this as a tank its annoying I have to go run around and spam aoes to get them on me. And its worse when said healer is running around like a chocobo with their head cut off.

I'm guilty. But that's because I try to make the math judging by the damage the party is doing and suddenly near the end AOE start flying and the damage seems to double and the tank end the fight having like 8-5 seconds of Regen...

yeah...this has been getting me. I'll check the health on all the mobs thinking i'm good...then suddenly out of nowhere this big beam of light comes down and everything that was at 25-50% HP is now dead, and tank is heading for a new set of mobs. I can never tell when someone is about to use some amazing skill to wipe them all out lol. Still not familiar with what new skills the other jobs got.

Late to the party, but would like to point out; any tank can out aggro regen, regen doesn't build a ton of aggro, the issue is that you pull aggro on things BEFORE the tank has aggro on them.

As a PLD if I have a regen up, I'm too lazy to click it off on PS4 (something I'm getting more accustomed to now with The Arrow) so I'll just readjust how I'm doing the pull. I'll line it up so that once I shield lob one and the others automatically rush the healer (which is unavoidable because you healed while I had only 1 point of aggro on all but one mob), I'll be in the correct position to be able to tag all the trash with a Flash before they maul your face. On the other hand, if I'm not prepared for it, then you get the trash. It's not a matter of quantity of aggro, it's a matter of complicating things for your tank due to your impatience. IDM it too much on my PLD, but it's a horrible, lousy habit for a healer and when I see them doing it to DF tanks I want to sit them down and teach them how to participate in a party.

I have a tendency to cast it during the last mob of a pull, or I've extended it via my cds on ast. If you take it off, I'm Thrilled Your Intelligent! lol However, as I've never seen a tank do this; even as my whm in ARR; I'll assume they don't realize it's still ticking on them and will run to them. This usually will result in me standing in a cleave, but at least the tank doesn't have to run around the map because the healer has shit on them >.> That drives me insane when I see that on a dps.

I sometimes accidentally throw out a medica II right when everything's about to die, and I cringe as I watch tanks run into the next pack without clicking it off.

But then when I run as a tank, I usually click it off before pulling and the healer recasts whichever HoT it is immediately, and you can imagine how that ends.

I used to think most healers knew better until I leveled my pld to 60, but no. A majority of the white mages I got grouped with refreshed medica II like it was going out of style and they thought there was no way we'd live if it wasn't reapplied between pulls.

I just prefer to be the healer so I don't have to deal with that nonsense.

If something like this happens, I either turn my defensive stance off and go full dps when I'm tanking (and I won't use any CD) or vote kick the SCH...or I just leave the instance, I'm not there to carry their ass.

Unfortunately healing in a non-raid environment is really trivial in this game and maybe for this very reason there are a LOT of terrible healers that have no idea how this game works or what they're supposed to do to effectively support the party other than just healing.

As for HoTs...well I've seen WHMs casting medica II and regen before the pulls for whatever reason, if that happens I just tell them not to do it, but luckily enough this is happening less frequently to me now. Always try to explain to them that applying hots before pulls is a very bad habit for a healer. If they won't listen, just let the mobs eat them and /laugh at their corpses.
