i do agree, people expect healers&tanks to take over the jobs of the DPS, that is just something you can't expect from random people in DF(I know alot of people who struggle to lets say, stance dance)
Now i personally get a strange satisfaction from healing and dealing as much DMG as possible. Call me weird, i like it. But come on. Don't make people play your way in random dungeons. Some people just can't do it.
And for the lazy people.. well yea.. not gonna defend them i do believe, If you can you should dps as much as possible. But once again, you gotta be comfortable there.
I NEVER dps as a healer in DF, because most people do not know how to avoid AOE's. If I had 1g every time I seen some one stand in a AOE while I was in a DF, I would have enough money to buy a large house.
My friend, You must have done many many runs! I'll admit, i see some bad people but its a rare sight to see people eat aoes non stop though xD
I always DPS as a healer in DF, I find it less fulfilling playing a SCH and not attacking. When you regularly put out as much DPS as the average player in DF (not exactly high) you find yourself healing the bad players much lesswhen someone has shown they are incapable of dodging AOE all the healing they get from me is Succor and my fairy's embrace. They'll quickly learn they can't rely on the healer to keep them alive and will actively try to dodge or die.
I do let the rest of the party know I'm doing this before I start though... But if someone is getting hit by every damn AOE it's just not worth the MP cost and DPS loss to heal them when I'm doing just as good if not better damage.
That being said, it's mighty rare to find this kind of player, I've seen plenty that are close enough to warrant less attention from me than normal, but none that bad xD

I am fairly new and am noticing the toxicity of this community. It doesn't always boil down to a healer being lazy. Most if not all MMOs content is usually accomplished without people harping on a healer to dps. I have NEVER played an MMO where people got angry at a healer for not dpsing. Also part being a healer is some are lured to the aspect of being a groups healbot. Maybe I just haven't been playing the game long enough but I don't see many opportunities to outright dps. Could just be a Duty Finder thing (haven't done organized end game content yet) but tanks mass pull and don't hold aggro, dps don't avoid aoe's and so on. Furthermore the nastiness of the people in this game is a little alarming.
You have now.
The problem isn't when healers have to heal full time to keep people alive. The problem is when the tank only needs healing once every 10-12 seconds or longer because they are 55+ ilvls above the content. Usually in DF I need maybe 2 actual heals per fight if I am shielded and hit with some HoTs first. People have run these same two dungeons dozens of times and just want it done with as soon as possible. Ironically, WHM damage spells are better burst than most classes save for DRG and a decent BLM (few and far between). So by not DPSing as a WHM and just sitting there waiting for me to take damage, or spamming cure I every GCD and doing 75% overheal, you're extending the time it takes to complete the dungeon, and all most people are thinking is "Just give me my eso's and get me out of here!"
Incidentally, in almost all MMOs I have played, past a certain gear level the healer is expected to start DPSing if the tank is not taking any sort of significant damage, because there's nothing else for them to do. Again, people want the run over with so they can do the things they enjoy doing in the game (RP, crafting, 15/month chat room) as opposed to the things they are made to feel they HAVE to do (Esos).
Start the pull in cleric, toss what dps you can (aoe?), then you can instantly drop out of cleric without worrying about 5 seconds. You have to wait to hot/heal until the tank has aggro anyway - put shields up at the end of the previous pull.
Why is this topic still going?
Want to DPS? DPS.
Don't feel confident? Don't DPS.
Are you lazy so you want only to heal? Put lower level equips before queueing and have fun.
Someone is being an *** on the chat? Let them kick you and queue again, healer queues are fast anyways.
People complain too much about healers, god!
I can honestly say that out of the hundreds of dungeons, trials and raids I've done on my various characters, the tanks who were in them royally bitched at the healers if they DPSed in a good 90% of those runs.
