I don't get why people think a personal parser would be all that helpful.

PC players can already parse themselves if they want. I imagine most players who care about their dps already do it from time to time at the least.

A player who is not doing adequate DPS is not exactly going to let their group know about it either. How will the group know who the dead weight is if everyone is only parsing themselves?

So basically, many players already have the ability to parse themselves without trouble. The only benefit an official personal parser would have is to make it available for ps3/ps4 players as well possibly.

It would not help with DPS checks being met or anything really.

There are 2 different kinds of people:
The person who made this thread that wants to judge their own dps and areas to improve, using discussion and 3rd party sources like these forums and Reddit to find goal dps.

The other wants to use parsers to directly judge the contributions of others in order to adjust performance or replace if needed and to see where the group struggles the most during phases.

To me, a personal parser is healthiest. PC users will continue to be able to track raid performance. I always enjoy competition so being able to see where i rank in a party would always be fun, but a personal parser is a nice step towards a group parser.

We don't need a nice step towards a group parser, we need a group parser for EX primals and content above that level. A group parser will of course measure your own DPS, so you could use that for your improving your skills too.

The issue is that so many players take this:

As a form of a personal attack, or are unable to deal with constructive criticism.

If there is a case of legitimate player harassment, the GMs are there to deal with that. However overall player transparency is never a bad thing.

it's basically just leveling the playing field for everyone

    directly? no. Indirectly? yes.
PS4 players can now practice more without being dependent on other users to parse them.

we need to report evil parser users! lols.
seriously though, harassment needs to be reported.

If you mean the ps3/ps4 thing, that means I only partially answered my own question. That alone isn't that helpful.

Agreed. It won't do much in the way for helping groups clear dps checks though, for the reasons stated in my first post.

It won't even have much of an indirect effect, as one can still play poorly with a parser running without needing to improve, because others will not know they are doing poorly unless they use a group parser or micromanage someone else's skill usage.

I won't disagree though, you're right to a degree in theory. But people are greatly over exaggerating the effect an official personal parser would have on the community. Not much will change in practice until SE allows group parsing and investigates harassment cases related to it thoroughly, with appropriate punishment if needed.

Because let's be honest. A PS3/PS4 player can already get a parse by asking a PC player if they really want to know currently. And the people who don't care to know are the people who won't pay attention to a personal parser because they won't care if they parse well or not.

Without group parsers, these people can sneak into groups and play as poorly as they like without fear, because if anyone so much as says "Your damage is a bit low, would you please try something different?" they can be reported and SE will frown on them at best, ban them at worst. Official or at least legal group parsers, with SE investigating thoroughly if a group's reaction is harassment or not, would be the only true solution. Is it possible for SE to do this at this time? I don't know, but it is what it is, the best solution. While personal parsing is just a bandaid on a giant wound.

What I will say is this: There will be players who vote kick and trash talk with or without parser. All it would do is give them confirmation and proof. I would still like a self parser to see if my DPS is up to the standards. Also why couldn't there be an ingame party one funcional only in a premade? I don't know how that suff works tbh. Also....

Also if people did post on reddit wouldn't it be a good thing? Wouldn't you want to know if you weren't playing optimally?
you would be surprised the length toxic player would go in this game

How can you know you are underperforming, if you have nobody to compare yourself to?

I would actually be extremely surprised, seeing that the amount of toxic players in this game is INCREDIBLY low, and most of them just throw a random tantrum and leave.

I don't know what you mean by no one to compare myself to, they aren't even allowed and people post numbers for DPS everywhere, so there SHOULD be plenty of ways. And maybe very few would go to that extreme, but I run into PLENTY of toxic attitude players, but maybe that's just my luck.

I agree with the OP. A self phaser would be awesome to use and I like to know how much DPS I can currently point out.
