The devs should just bring back this damage type for Machinists and Bards, because I think we can agree that bullets do projectile damage regardless of their shape.
Something, something, something a sword's a projectile you just haven't let go of!

    The definition is not vague.

    pierce
    pɪəs/Submit
    verb
    1.
(of a sharp pointed object) go into or through (something).

By definition, if the bullet (whether round, pointy, stuffed animal, piece of toast) is going fast enough to GO INTO the object, it is piercing. Your reference to the golf ball is piercing if it is travelling at a fast enough speed.

Even then something sharp is truly "round" at the tip on a microscopic scale. it is impossible to make something into a truly perfect point.

How in the hell do we have 11 pages of discussion with people attempting to debate that bullets should be considered blunt instruments? I can't even.

By the definition that clearly, non-vaguely states "sharp pointed object", and not "every object ever"?

There should be a new job that uses blunt damage, but MCH is not one of them.

    Well I said. ^

But since we continue to want to be technical.

    sharp
    ʃɑːp/Submit
    adjective
    1.
(of an object) having an edge or point that is able to cut or pierce something

Speed turns anything into a sharp object.

I think we've established that the semantics angle is a moot point unless YoshiP himself shows up, what with definitions being vague and the risk of things being lost in translation. There wouldn't be 11 pages of this if it was crystal clear.

It would however, make for more diverse raid compositions making MNK's blunt resist down a proper counterpart to Disembowel. NIN of course have Trick Attack, so all 3 melees would be nicely set against each other.

That's a tie and a point for blunt, so I proclaim blunt damage the winner

Except it doesn't. So there's that.

We have 11 pages of this because people love to argue and are both ridiculous and incessant. There's nothing ambiguous about how silly it is to suggest that bullets qualify as blunt weapons.

As far as gameplay goes, it could definitely be interesting to introduce a counterpart to the Disembowel dynamic, but bludgeoning bullets are a big stretch, even for this kind of game. Call it something else, code the MNK debuff for Blunt/Projectile Vulnerability Up, and bypass the semantics.
