This must be a white mage problem, I have no issue with this as a scholar, but there's plenty of glamour options if you don't like your current set.

Is that the bard AF2/esoteric? Cos that's just Edward's outfit from FF4, who was a very feminine male.

Gear design is difficult. If you try to make gear largely gender-neutral (like 99% of the gear we have now) you'll get people who complain that the gear looks too masculine or too feminine depending on the inherent design of the equipment. If you make the male and female versions different, you'll again stir up the ire of people who feel like their gender got stuck with the "wrong" version or otherwise express the desire to wear the opposite gender's outfit because they like that one more.

I'm of the opinion that SE should continue attempting to design the equipment as gender-neutral as possible and if there needs to be gender variations they should be minor. Or maybe I should clarify and say items specifically meant for glamour should have wide variations between genders (and they need to stop gender-locking the female equivalent) and actual DoW/M/L/H equipment should continue to be relatively neutral the way it's always been.

Anyway, back on topic, I think the OP's problem stems from robes and gowns not being very masculine in general. Powerful men have worn robes throughout human history, but a robe isn't the type of garment one would usually associate with masculinity at a glance. Unfortunately for the OP, mage and scholarly-type characters tend to be heavily associated with wearing robes and gowns in popular culture. Even in the Final Fantasy series the caster and healer characters almost always wear robes and long coats. I don't think something so easily iconic will be going away any time soon so you might want to get clever with your glamouring.

With this character's death, the thread of prophecy remains intact.

My only problem with those is that the feminine version is gender locked while the masculine equivalent is not.

Yeah, there should be like a giant penis costume with spikes so everyone online knows how manly you are irl.

I think the ironworks gear is pretty neutral in terms of masculine in feminine.

Scholar is unique in that both AF sets have different looks depending on your gender (basically boys get pants while girls get skirts) while White Mage and Astrologian have the same, more feminine look to them no matter you character's gender, the long, gilded robes.

Honestly I feel like the best method around this would be to make some future gear set options more masculine in general just so we have more options for vanity.

Here is the male healer from final fantasy tactics.

Or they could of did something similar to this.

I also feel same way, even in FFXI with the beastmaster outfit they came out with during the TOA expansion, it looked like a female armor set slapped onto a male character with the armor pulled down below shoulders.

there is glamour though but still some like the original sets and wish it was more macho looking than feminine for guys.

    this x1000

All the other job trainers and job-related NPCs showcased the AF sets.

Curious Gorge wears the WAR set
    Solkzagyl wears the PLD set
    A-towa-cant wears the WHM set
    Ququruka wears the BLM set
    Estinien wears the DRG set
    Widargelt wears the MNK set
Surito Carito wears the SCH set
    Tristan wears the SMN set

Jehantel on the other hand was like "F*ck no, I'm not going to be caught dead wearing that. I'm a man, damnit!"

Alot of the Healer gear looks very Feminine yes and even I think it looks weird on any males besides perhaps Mioqs and lalas, but the real problem is how we perceive it on the characters.
Take tank gear for example it's generally very masculine (especially WAR) but people think it looks fine on females while an MRoe in WHM gear looks like a "Pretty Princess"
