I think market wards shouldn't be instanced at all (it's annoying having to teleport between wards enough as it is), so adding even more instances would probably annoy me even more. I'd rather have non-instanced street vending with a search function, or some kind of non-instanced multi-levelled mall which was easy to navigate and put all the retainers within short reach of one another. Basically like the current market ward but quicker (without all the loading of search screens and teleportation).

I think a moghouse economy would only work if FFXIV was a fantasy world simulator. i.e., a game where players could build their own non-instanced towns. A (non instanced!) moghouse system would gain relevance because people would come to your shop due to popularity etc, and your town could gain renown by supporting certain markets.

In FFXIV, where they haven't shown much interest in creating a game like that, it probably wouldnt have enough relevance.

    I agree fully with this.

Its really not that bad, are you seriously going to be that picky about teleporting? It takes 5 seconds tops to zone into a MW, the annoying thing is having a cluttered mess of npc's everywhere. I think MW can only be implemented within a instance, far to messy of a system to place out in the open... Jeuno?

when FF's history is convenient auction houses I can see why people would dislike having to teleport around

Devs have stated they are looking into a Auction House, i dont believe they ever stated anything about removing the market ward system, in fact they are improving it next patch. When this system is implemented MW are most likely going to be abandoned by the players for selling and will most likely be used for storage if anything....making it more personal gives players a reason to still use the system, as well as give players several options once AH is implemented. Plus it would be neat to visit someone elses MW.

And besides teleporting around and walking to the retainer isnt much different than buying your item off an AH and walking to your mog house / mailbox in fact it may be faster :\...only upside is you can buy multiple items before leaving with a AH.

It's not that I begrudge the few seconds it takes to teleport, it's just that it feels weird. It's so jarring.

And it's only compounded by the search feature which you cant use while running around (why can't you search while running around?).

And I think a retainer system would be messy if placed in the city, but cities aren't supposed to be tidy anyway. Obviously a compromise would be to create (as I suggested) a secluded market ward area which wasn't instanced but which did not impinge itself upon the city streets.

I could see how being wisped away dissapearing and then appearing again could feel weird, (cant be healthy) sorry im trolling....its still to messy to be used in that manner could you imagine spilling every retainer from every ward out into 1 area, ffxiv population is small and if it grows this system is way more of a burden than having it instanced with multiple instances. Searching while running wont be needed if the area is small.

This would create massive lag within the server or area. That's why they make it instanced so they can distribute traffic within the server. An Auction house is still ideal. Fuck being different. A game/mmo will always be a game/mmo with features that make it so, you shouldn't have to turn it into a potato... I don't want a fucking potato... I want an mmo god damnit

They tried this with Star Wars Galaxies, the entire game landscape became a total shambles of pick'n'mix houses scattered where-ever.
Plus as Spuffin said, it'd cause LOTS of lag.

I'd like an auction house to go with the market wards though. could use the market wards to sell everyday run of the mill stuff like simple crafted items at set prices, and the auction house to sell HQ things and special items/equipment using a bidding system.
It'd be nice if moogles operated the auction house too just so we'd get to see them more than just in cut-scenes.
