Yep. I play a game because I enjoy playing the game. Who'd a thunk it??

Maybe I'm atypical though. Maybe, because I have a accomplished a lot in real life, I can just relax and enjoy what I am doing without worrying about how much fake wealth I accumulate.

The people here complaining that crafting is broken because they cannot get rich by crafting anymore ... why are they obsessed with getting rich? If they enjoy the process of crafting, that should be enough, right? Some day, we'll move on to another activity or the servers will shut down, and all that gil will evaporate.

But the memories of the fun I am having will remain. So I'll take fun over gil until I run out of the latter. Because FFXIV is a game, not a job. Treat it like a job, and you will probably wind up hating it.

I've enjoyed the crafting system up until the expansion. At the moment there isn't anything worth crafting but well, crafter gear/tools.

It's like as if I was a tailor that could only craft outfits for tailors to wear:
"Hey, can you craft a army outfit for someone to wear into battle?"
"Um, would a top hat and bow tie be good?"
    "Well, actually not."
"Oh I know, sure I can make a basic outfit that will wear out in a week or two. That will be 10 million dollars please."
    "I'll pass, thanks."

It's a great system and I believe eventually it will work it's way out once we get some new recipes.

I actually love crafting. For Heavensward I maxxed out all my gatherers first then all my crafters so that I can be self-sufficient. I maxxed CUL out first simply because I loved cooking; eyebrow-raising, I know, until FC members realized that Muscle Memory is a decent skill.

I would agree that the red scrips thing is quite the grind... and so I simply opted out of it. I do hope that they make improvements for the benefit of those who... uh, don't like it? I guess. And I still make gil every day, 100k to 500k which is decent for a buyer's market like ours; 1m on a good day even though I usually play only a few hours after work. I just watch the market for what's in demand, stuff like that.

Well this is reason why i started to love crafting and gathering in HW, because its now more grindy many peoples will go "screw this" and that means better market for me as i dont mind ginding at all(actually i love grinding).

    HW crafting = $_$

I think the only people that are actually upset about the new crafting system were people who felt really special for selling a bunch of crafts. I mean this whole game is a big role play session for being "the chosen one" so I am not baffled at all by this.

In a way they made the system MORE exclusive of players. It went from 5-10% of people selling the max level crafts on my server to .05%... and I wasn't one of the people making this grind.

I never thought too much about my crafting skills despite making enough money to buy everything I ever wanted to buy. I love crafting, but I really don't care for gathering at all. So, oh well for me really. I know some people are pretty bummed about it though.

That's exactly what you said. Just because something is technically possible doesn't mean it's feasible, and buying mats every single week at current prices isn't feasible.

It's a game, not a job, you should play it because it's fun. So craft because you enjoy crafting, or don't bother.
You have reading comprehension issues, given that you don't understand half of the complaints in this thread. We want to craft without spending hours of mind-numbing gathering to do so. The reason why gil plays such an important factor to that is because if you're buying mats, you need a way to recover the expenditures. Ask anyone on Ultros who has tried competing with me on the MB and they'll tell you I'm a MB fiend. I couldn't care less about profit margins, as long as I can keep buying and selling to craft. And don't even bother responding with something stupid like, "just craft white stuff." A monkey could press a macro button and craft those.

Fun? Sure. The actual process of crafting is probably one of the best I've seen, actually.

Heavensward? OK. Red Scrips annoy me for the same reason any weekly cap annoys me, but I'm fine with the extra material requirements and scarcity of materials; Actually gives all the Gil I've made purpose. A Realm Reborn suffered, very early on, from materials basically being worthless. I'm glad the Specialist system will eventually kill Omnicrafting, since Omnicrafting was just harming this games economy. Why would I ever buy anything when I can produce everything myself? The moment you have a House in this game, your Gil loses all of its value. There is simply nothing to buy, when you can make everything yourself. Heavensward is fixing that, and I'm glad.

Crafting, though? Still disappointed that it's ultimate purpose is nothing more than a Glamour Vendor... Nothing you make in this game has any staying power (outside the crafting/gathering equipment, that is), and that disappoints me greatly (because I didn't level Blacksmith to make the ultimate potato peeling knife, I leveled it to make the ultimate swords and lances). Why does something like the Relic questline have to be shoved on a NPC crafter? Wouldn't it have been so much better if actual crafters were forging those Relics? Gear versions, too? It really isn't very hard to get around the whole "We don't want people buying raid gear" issue. I could make something that gets replaced easily by raid gear, but a drop from the raid lets you upgrade that gear, or even better, add a "Request Synthesis" option so I can do the upgrading, rather than trading to another NPC... Oh look, relevant crafted gear that is locked behind a raid... That wasn't hard at all...

The act of crafting an item is fun, as it has always been, but the current system is total garbage. OP, you contradict yourself by saying you enjoy both the act of crafting and only crafting 2-3 items a week.

The vast majority of the crafting community hates the system, so Square will listen to us rather than those who amazingly somehow like it. Eventually this system will disappear entirely, assuming Square listens to the general consensus of the crafting community.

I just want a system that doesn't require me to level up every other job just to do one.

I want to be a weaver. I don't want to level up every DoH just to be decent Weaver.
