Well this is reason why i started to love crafting and gathering in HW, because its now more grindy many peoples will go "screw this" and that means better market for me as i dont mind ginding at all(actually i love grinding).
HW crafting = $_$
The biggest and most viable complaint is that there is no reason for crafting outside of consumables. So you grind and craft 2-3 times a week to make a full set of x class crafting gear, then what? Will it be, craft thie current gear nad penta meld it just to be able to craft the next tier of crafting gear so you can craft the 3rd set of crafting gear?
Due to how FCoB clears went with some players using crafted and melded gear to progress without having to do the gear progression, that now crafted battle job gear will not be viable. So pretty pointless.
Only thing I craft is food and stat pots for progression.

I love crafting. I hate gathering ooids and plants in order to make a single ingot. And I wish we had more variety in what we could craft -- if battle pieces are too much, why not more glamours?

I'm enjoying crafting, but I'm progressing pretty slowly at it. Mostly I just make a lot of the normal items to sell right now, like food. Even some of the 2.0 foods still sell, so I crank them out and keep em on the market. I haven't crafted anything using the scrip mats yet, mostly because I'm still unlocking all of the Legendary gathering nodes. I prefer to be self-sufficient. :3
In the meantime, I'm just mostly hoarding my scrip tokens. I've sold a few, but I still have a lot in my inventory.
It's the current gate of crafting.
I always use Carpenter as an example since I consider it my main focus but this is my problem with the current system. Lack of anything to make and as mentioned the amount of synths gated through red scrips. This means even all these synths you are limited to how much you can synth.
So with the Mastercraft III Book I can do the following:
No requirements:
1 Furniture
3 DOW/DOM weapons
1 DOL Main tool
Craftmanship 620 to make:
5 Furniture
Craftmanship 718, Control 695 to make:
2 offhand DOL tools
3 DOH Accessories
1 Furniture (Material which comes from the weekly Alexander Savage so extremely limited)(((AND IT USES RED SCRIP MATERIALS WHY WOULD YOU WANT THIS)))
1 material (used for red scrip synths)
Total=17
Now look at it, soak it in, so I"m obtaining red scrips to craft to get better gear to make stuff I've been making with the red scrips to craft stuff to make stuff that I've already been making. And even if I wanted to make something unique and different, why would I want to spend my red scrips on a piece of furniture that lacks variety.
For me it's just a huge letdown seeing the lack of options when it comes to crafting and for me I'd still have had no desire to really invest into gear cause I can perfectly create collectibles I need to fill the weekly quota so honestly as it stands upgrading my gear just has no point atm, the rush to the finish line doesn't really offer any sort of reward or incentive that I could honestly say I"m looking forward to.
So I get my Carpenter maxed out and then what I can HQ the material needed to make that gear easier and HQ that accessories and offhands I was able to make before easier? That's where they dropped the ball, it shouldn't be oh well this stuff is now easier to do it should of been oh yes now I have access to 5-10 synths now that I've reached the top. If they had done that I honestly don't think many people would have to much of an issue with crafting cause they'd at least have something to look forward to but with a lack of anything to be excited for the fun of crafting is lost to most because it's making stuff just to make the stuff you are already making easier, and what fun is that?
It's not and compare raider gear progression vs crafter AF is laughable.

I actually love crafting now, 2-star crafts are intense and very satisfying when you HQ knowing one mess up sets you back 12-16 million gil.
No the issue right now is gathering.
They did great with collectables, good system i hope they continue to use it and tune it. But favors are awful, just awful.
For instnace I finally crafted my weaver dreadnought yesterday, it took about 10 minutes to craft it after putting the materials all together.
Gathering the favor mats took two hours, that should not be a thing.
Crafting and Gathering used to be fun. Now it's just an idiotic grind.
And people aren't upset that crafting is difficult (because it isn't), they're upset because it became even more time-consuming than before. I was already unhappy with DoL/DoHs before Heavensward, and the expansion just made everything much worse. It's the main reason why I've barely logged in the past month. The effort required to do something as simple as GC daily turn-ins was multiplied by a factor of 3 or more for no good reason.
Gathering and Crafting should be a fun and relaxing side-activity to gear up your battle classes. Instead it became a full-time job focused on making gil on the MB. I already have a job in real life, when I log into FFXIV I want to have fun.

That's your opinion and that's fine.
But for other people, battle classes are just a fun and relaxing side activity for generating ventures and GC seals that are used to obtain materials for crafting. And gathering, especially fishing, is it's own thing and enjoyable for it's own reasons.
I'm enjoying it all. I get a ton of good entertainment out of my monthly subscription fee, it's a great value.

Read as: "I do have lots of free time and im a rich player who can just power its way through the dissaster SE made out of 3.0 crafting".
Crafting as a whole is nice, is interesting and engaging, thinking back at 2.0 and 2.1, crafting was great, rewarding and something worth progressing through. Right now stands as a pointless grind for no real progression at all which is not indepedendent anymore cuz it requieres you to also gather yourself stuff you don`t want to go into backrupcy. In overall, Crafting started great, economy wasn`t the best yes, but still, effort = ward. Today, crafting is horrid, economy still sucks and effort does not match the reward cause there is literally no reward. Aside of being able to craft the i170 pieces for yourself for the advantage of being able to dye and glamour it cause the i180 aren`t dyable... You can`t even cap the i170, and there is nothing you can`t craft on i150 that you can in i170-i180... So... Yeah, crafting.
