Dragon Age
The Elder Scrolls

Witcher
The Souls series, including Bloodborne
Mount & Blade
Borderlands
KOTOR (I'd be surprised if we don't see another one by the time Star Wars Episode 8 or 9 are out)
Terraria/Starbound
And many, many more. These are just the ones I own. We have tons of RPGs.![]()

No, why did you mention mount and blade... The download is only 3 minutes long, but every time I boot it up, I lose a week of my life. Curse you, naming that game, I'm holding you responsible for what I do next.Dragon Age
The Elder Scrolls
Fallout
Witcher
The Souls series, including Bloodborne
Mount & Blade
Borderlands
KOTOR (I'd be surprised if we don't see another one by the time Star Wars Episode 8 or 9 are out)

I know how you feel, but hey, as long as you enjoy it, right?Just don't go and do anything illegal next! Can't wait for Bannerlord...
Those RPG do not suck me into a world of imagination and story, I mean they are okay I have fun traveling around the world but I am talking classic style and new age that are very good like the old and upcoming.Dragon Age
The Elder Scrolls
Fallout
Witcher
The Souls series, including Bloodborne
Mount & Blade
Borderlands
KOTOR (I'd be surprised if we don't see another one by the time Star Wars Episode 8 or 9 are out)
Terraria/Starbound
And many, many more. These are just the ones I own. We have tons of RPGs.
Examples would be.
Shining force series.
Breath of fire 1-3 I liked 4 but this is when they started putting 3D into it and ruined the series up to dragons quarter
Chrono Trigger
Saga Frontier
Secret of Mana
Suikoden 1 and 2 the others were okay but classic 2D is where its at
Disgara series and the upcoming disgaea 5
Persona 1 and 2, I like the creepy vibe the new games didn't have it.
Final fantasy 3/6 and 7/8/9 all good games, some of the others are good but not as much as those.
Grandia 1 and 2
star ocean series
arc the lad original series not the one for ps2
Lunar series
Albert odessy
Sailor moon rpg
Tons of other Jrpg and rpg back in the day I use to buy them all then they just stopped, I like anime style driven 2D sprites I am glad Disgaea has stayed the same for a long time, some times it works sometimes it don't when they go 3D.
I think that's the issue now days, too many high end graphics games mostly all wanna be the same thing, no different styles it used to be balanced. now everything just seems hell bent on high end graphics.

I've grown really disillusioned with Bioware in the last several years, and I say that as someone with 500+ hours in the Mass Effect trilogy. Apart from them it's CD Projekt Red, Taleworlds, Bethesda, Obsidian, and indies. I love their work to death, but there still aren't many.Dragon Age

From(Souls/Bloodborne) is a Japanese company btw.
You're right, my bad. Don't know how I forgot that, just got caught up listing my favourite RPGs I guess.I've grown really disillusioned with Bioware in the last several years, and I say that as someone with 500+ hours in the Mass Effect trilogy. I would take your opinion for what it is, your opinion, but that last comment is entirely incorrect. You seem like many others who've been filled with nostalgia, the majority of the games you listed are great and most are considered "classics", but to say they mostly all want to be the same thing is wrong. Apart from The Elder Scrolls and Fallout, they're very different games (and those are similar because it's the same developer, same engine, you get the point). Mount and Blade looks incredibly bad, yet it's quite popular (not to the extent of other games of course) but it plays amazingly, they weren't obsessed with visuals when designing the game. Even their upcoming Mount and Blade game doesn't have the best visuals, that's not to say it doesn't look amazing, but it's not quite up there. Borderlands, TES, FO, Terraria and Starbound, Dragon Age all don't have mind blowing visuals and they do focus on the game more so than the visuals (so does Witcher 3, the best of them all, but you're going to claim the visuals look too good or something).
What's wrong with using visuals to improve on a game, it's not as important as gameplay or story, but it does play a major role in getting me immersed in the game. When I look at the pixelated textures of FFXIV I'm immediately drawn out, I can't say the same for The Witcher 3. And finally, Final Fantasy has lost that "touch" ages ago, FF13 was the last main series Final Fantasy game they've released in the past 8-9 years apart from XIV isn't it? What did they spend all that money on, not the gameplay or story, it was on their engine to improve the graphics and their fancy realistic eyeball technology. The same can be said about 1.0, and FFXV. FFXV performs so poorly on this generation of consoles that it dips below 20 FPS many times, they're sacrificing gameplay for visuals and even then it lacks in that area (poor AA, pop in textures/models, low view distance, etc). Final Fantasy has gone the route of every other RPG in today's time.
Apart from the Souls series, the Persona series se maybe a few others I've forgotten, I've been disappointed in Japan's RPGs recently, they've grown worse than Western RPGs when 10 years ago it was the complete opposite. I've noticed they've tended to pander towards the waifu loving community they have, filled to the brim with ridiculous cutesy characters, especially true in their other forms of media like anime. But that's a subject for another day and don't feel like starting a long debate who whomever gets angry with what I just said so don't bother.
No I am not wrong.
I watched realism kill off thriving franchises.
Let me explain why I said only a few even though there were more of the series.
Grandia 3 when they started to enhance graphics going into the realism game series just croaked.
Breath of fire dragons quarter croaked realism
they tried it in street fighter remember street fighter ex and movie? then what did they do go backwards back to 2D style even now street fighter struggles and capcom. the so called megaman rehash game mighty number 9 could never touch a candle to the megaman x series.
Suikoden 1 and 2 best of the series what then it started to go down hill once they started to go the realism route, 3 was ok but 4 sucked 5 was ok suikoden on psp wasn't even suikoden game to me it turned into a legends of lagaia game. no more 108 stars of destiny it was weird.
Final fantasy has done it correctly with the realism because they did a perfect swap over while it was fresh with final fantasy 7
We play video games to escape the real world to go to a fantasy world to explore never seen things but then you go into realism we see things we already see stuff looks plain no color bland not like the good old days when explosions spells and combo attacks and things that were unreal and you can talk about them with friends.
Example would be something like perfect dark, the laptop gun or the farsight or chrono triggers combo system going back through time the music how hard boss fights were the 2D graphics colorful places great animation.
Nothing like that no more I don't talk about oblivion or other things from different video games much anymore cause nothing exciting to talk about, it went from omg the BFG from doom to oh its a aug with a noob tube on cod woopie doo.
Like I said back then those games were magic, realism kills it, idk how many times ive went back and played old games and had fun even showing my nephew and him even saying wow you guys were lucky to have games like these back then, because they were actually games.
realism is ok to a point, what killed it is when black ops came out and the dev was talking about how great the arm hair looks that's where realism starts to go to far who cares about arm hair.
It works for some and others it don't.
There are fans out there who love 2D anime style games like crazy look at disgaea it stayed 2D forever just imagine if laharl went into realism you think disgaea would survive I don't think it would.
some can make the switch some cant, Id love to see shining force 3 remade into a 2D game with 2D sprites instead of the one on sega saturn call me old fashion but they played like video games back then dont get me wrong though I like realism to extent like uncharted series some of the final fantasy games and tomb raider maybe oblivion.
I remember when they made a classic 2D fight against titan as a spoof tons of people loved it even the ff13 2D sprite one to me that's nice stuff there because its never made like that anymore and if it does its rare thing to come by these days.
