A tournament where you are supposed to win with skill. Its not debatable its wrong it didn't matter if SE made a mistake in this its wrong and people know it's wrong yet they buy and trade wins any way. So yes you can hate the player.
The tournament already fails at winning with skill if you're allowed to choose who you play against without consequence. As such, I can play against the same person and win over and over again, making that point moot. If the tournament was intended that way, SE would of made the changes to the tournament that decreases the amount you earn from just farming with one person, getting rid of early bird bonuses, etc. In order to win at this system, you have to cheat to beat the cheaters who exploit the system, and while I get what you mean, it's ultimately SE responsibility that tournaments have gotten this way, not the players using their skills to exploit a system by pinpointing its weaknesses.

yeah yeah. and if tournaments were skillbased then why is one of em based on the RANDOM rule`? this rule basicly removes all skill and sometimes decides the winner from the get go. a skill based game would be a game thats not based on RNG in any form.

Well, I mean random doesn't necessarily mean "not skill based." One could argue that being forced to use cards and decks that you normally don't requires more skill because you have to come up with strategies on the fly and find a way to use potentially weaker cards to beat stronger ones. Random/chaos is a bit different, but random on it's own isn't so bad.

The problem with match-fixing is that it ruins the fun of tournaments. If you're not match fixing, then there is virtually no chance that you can win, and probably wont even scratch the top 20. Where is the fun in playing that way if you know you have no chance of winning if you don't abuse the system like that? And for the people match fixing, it's not fun either. It's just a grind because they want to get that MGP with as little work as humanly possible.

CORE ISSUE SPOT ON here basicly. ask this : why is mgp even a grind to begin with? thats the core problem here, who tought a GRIND is a good thing for somthing like gold saucer which is just supposed to be a FUN sidegame without any rewards gear wise? who came up with that idea?

if said grind wouldnt exist people wouldnt care as much about this. tough its still stupid somehow even if it wasnt lol.

It's a grind because they want the stuff like the cosmetic items to actually have some rarity. If they were super common nobody would care, so yeah in a way it's the grind that gives the stuff it's value.

Every MMO that has existed... Of course, they don't allow a cheating loophole like the tournament, which is truly the crux of the problem here. If it was a grind but everyone was basically treated the same then there'd be no complaints -- well, I should say they'd be individual complaints and the rest of us would just shrug and say 'it's their life' etc. etc. There wouldn't be this up cry of calling foul.

The other problem is that the loophole is so hugely profitable. Is there anything besides the weekly and daily lottery that can give as much MGP as the tourney does? I make around 14k MGP with just the NPCs. I'm sure the top people get a ton more plus the cards to turn in.

They should make a separate in-game function for TT where you queue up for random matches and move the tournament there. That would fix this.

Maybe they could fix it like this. (Of course the loud people who would be against this are the cheaters so we can ignore their responses.)

Make challenging players in the tournament only accessible by a duty finder like set up.

This would stop the cheating because it will be a random set up on your server for people looking for opponents in the tournament.

Tournaments just need some kind of roulette system where you are pitted against a random opponent, along with no ability to chat or send tells. Hell, your character model doesn't even need to be shown, just maybe your name, current win/streak and points earned upon winning, then straight into the match.

You may run into a LS mate, but those matches would be (or at least I hope) few and far in between. At least for me, I won't even bother with another tournament unless a massive overhaul on them is done, or a friend wants to have a ACTUAL match for their tournament.

What I don't get about all this is that here in the West, the one thing we hear about Japan is that its population care A LOT about honor. We have seen over and over that the one thing that matters to a Japanese man is his honor and reputation.

And yet in this game, made in Japan, the only realistic way of winning a tournament ( http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/tournament for the argumentative about real world rules ...) is to cheat more than everyone else? What went wrong there?

They do generally care more about honor. It's just that there, ime, finding an exploit, a backdoor or any sort of way to manipulate a game as released (without using actual cheating software) is not considered cheating at all. It's simply a mark of being in the know and finding ways to beat the system. Think of it as just a game within a game to find the cracks in the game logic and get things done faster/better.
