Well, the characters starting the game from scratch aren't /only/ new players. They're also alts of experienced players, whatever their reason to make an alt character (running lock-out raids more than once, having more retainers/storage, experiencing the MSQ again, wanting a different character for RP reasons.... it doesn't matter), and experienced players tend to know just what earns them gil. And I don't remember who it was, but someone commented in a thread similar to this one that they had a friend who'd levelled a crafting class to ~25, and told them they'd just made a few million gil that week (via said crafting). So legitimately rich low-level characters do exist.
Even if they're not rich... Don't you think it should be up to them what they spend their hard-earned gil on? TBH, the excuse that new players/characters don't have a lot of gil, and therefore the glamour system is fine at 50, sounds a bit patronizing to me (not saying that's the intention, but it's how it sounds in my ears). If they want to spend all their money on over-priced glamour prisms off the market board, why should that be any of your business? O.o
So you mean level 50 characters automatically have enough gil to throw 3 million on one glamour item? Maybe glamour should be a level 60 quest, instead, to avoid as much RMT as possible? Located in an HW area, of course.
Seriously speaking, though... the majority of people, no matter their level, aren't going to resort to RMT. Just because you can glamour things instead of being forced to wear them to look the part doesn't mean you'll automatically buy more level 1/glamour gear. I got myself the level 1 gear I wanted to wear (mostly event/starter/hempen sets, admittedly) way before unlocking glamour on all my alts. Some don't yet have the Plain Long Skirt (or Spring Skirt, either or) until I've saved enough money or crafted it on my main and had a friend mail it over. It's just an annoyance that I can't wear it in combat, though I have from time to time forgotten I had a 'town wear' gearset on when heading out to level. It rarely goes well, sad to say.
I think the biggest RMT promotion going on are the people selling runs of places for the "cheap, cheap price" of a few millions per run.
Your opinion is your opinion. The majority of my glamours tend to contain gear through level 1-15 (foestriker, omnom, and the acolyte boots.... ♥), and the level 32 infantry boots from Brayflox have been part of too many tank glamours to count. Does it mean I don't glamour on higher level gear? Of course not. Does it mean there aren't more options at 50 and higher? Not at all. But to say there are no 'good looking outfits' below 50 is a very subjective thing to say.
