What's your motivation to play ffxiv?

FC and raid static the only thing keeping me subbed ATM. Am enjoying leveling PLD (of all things), but it's not enough to make up for the lack of things to do once you've hit your weekly caps (which are now prevalent on EVERYTHING, including crafting and gathering).

If I'm brutally honest about it, it's mostly to escape my fugly real body and thus my inferiority complex for a bit, as well as the whole slew of other issues that developed from this.

It's like "poof", all the frustration and sorrow is gone. It gives me the ability to enjoy and thus pursue social interaction, which puts me in an awkward spot, since I don't actually know how to do it, as I'm used to hiding myself in a closet.

Probably one of the sadder motivations but hey, life has winners and losers, no need to be ashamed for being the latter.

I play FFXIV for fun and to relax.

Of course, Heavensward turning FFXIV's gathering and crafting into an even worse grind isn't helping much in the fun and relaxation department. I've been trying to get the motivation to log-in and do the Rising event for a while now.

I kid, I kid. Good on you for actually finding a way of having some social life; I know what it's like to feel more at ease around online people than 'real' people. I suspect it has to do with having a few more seconds to think of a proper response in text than in a real-time conversation.

Socializing! I like elements of the game but I enjoy my play time more if people in my free company are on. We don't even have to be doing anything together; just having people to chat with is enough. When none of them are online I get bored easily because the social aspect is what makes it different from just playing a single player game.

Excluding the obvious stuff like chatting with the friends I've made... probably gear progression (getting a new piece of gear is very satisfying for me), working on my Bomb Palanquin mount, and working on Kirin. Only 3 more to go for Kirin now! Got two today alone, and won 10,000 MGP. RNG has blessed me on this day.

I originally got the game so that I would have something to play while taking classes. I figured it would be better than spending $65 on a brand new game every few months.

It was my first MMO, I had no clue what I was getting myself into.

Anyway, my characters keep me playing. That and all the hidden lore and the good parts of the community. Whenever I'm not playing, I'm on the forums. The game and community has its hiccups and problems we can't seem to get past, but I love them both.
