Conceptually i'm not sure. Two letters ago will mention Caravan escort and in the red text to the side it says it will carve the way for Hamlet Defense. Hamlet defense is specifically mentioned in the last letter but I don't think we know any details. At least I don't.

Using one's imagination, hamlet defense will likely be something similar to a behest or beseiged. Moderately large scale events against mobs of enemies. Which is perhaps a driving impetus behind the claiming system changes.

Hamlet defense sounded similar to defensive campaign fights in FF11. Enemies attack a location and you intercept and drive them off.

Going to add to this, with a little crazy speculation on top. Perhaps the caravan/hamlet defense will be related to Grand Company quests. If so, maybe, like in FFXI campaign/besieged, the Grand Company heroes/leaders will accompany the caravan or be present at Hamlet and you have to defend from swarms of imperials with, possibly, one of those imperial generals (gun-halberd) showing up.

Would be cool, just sayin/speculating.
