    First Gaming Rig

Hello, I've come back to the forums after putting a list of parts together using pcpartpicker, Logical Increments and input from players and here it is!!

    http://pcpartpicker.com/p/Y6xmTW

Its a low end gaming PC but I'm hoping that with this system i will be able to play with great fps at 1920x1080. i would like to have more detail/effects on but my biggest concern is High FPS and maintaining the resolution i want.

If anyone could look and the build and give input, if any parts would be better for the price or anything glaring that I made a mistake on ^^;.

If i get some good reviews from fellow players and PC builders i will start buying the parts slowly and hopefully be building in two weeks! i cant wait cause this laptop is killing me.... had to retire ninja until i get a PC that doesn't get overran in group content

You should be able to run at that resolution with a decent frame rate, you wont be able to max out settings though, but should be able to run at "Desktop High" settings with acceptable frame rates.

If anything, I would get another set of the same RAM so you are at least running with 16gb.

Oh and get a decent CPU cooler, its not a good idea to use the stock cooler if building a gaming rig.

So buy an extra fan to instal in the unit and more ram? sounds like a plan because i was unsure what cooling was needed or when you need to add extra fans

No reason for 16. 8GB is enough. lol.

EDIT: Any reason why you're getting a MicroATX when you are getting a mid tower case?

Agreeing here, don't think you need 16GB if you're just playing games. 8GB is the sweet spot. I have 32GB and it seemingly makes no difference for games from the previous 8GB.

It's mostly that microATX are intended for when you want a smaller case, and usually don't offer as many component slots and/or make it trickier to fit said components to it due to the lack of size. Which means that if you go with it, then decide to upgrade your RAM, it might be a cumbersome process to switch them because other components are in the way. And it might mean that you can't go with an upgraded CPU cooler instead of the one shipped with the CPU because there's no room for it -- like others have said, those are often not powerful enough for a gaming rig, which decreases the life of your CPU. Plus they are often louder than 'custom' CPU coolers. Custom CPU coolers, on the other hand, are often a lot larger than the stock coolers.

I did a quick search on the site you linked, by selecting the parameters from your linked MB (socket, chipset, number of sata 6gb, onboard 3.0, RAM 32gb) plus "form factor ATX", and got a list of 12 different MBs =) Sure, the prices go up a bit, but the cheapest ones on the list are only $10-15 or so more than the one you'd picked, so it's not much of an increase. I'm not an expert, so I can't really make any comments regarding the various brands and their reliability, but I've had both ASRock and GigaByte MBs before without issues and they've all survived way beyond their "market value" (as in, technology advances made them obsolete; they didn't break down).

Best of luck with your build! =D

Remove Windows from the list. -83$
    1) Install Windows 8.1 or Windows 7 from MSDN ISO (running in trial mode without activation).
    2) Do magic (Exact incantation skipped because... reasons)
    3) Upgrade to Windows 10 for free. Your temporary activation will turn into permanent one.

    Replace GTX 960 with GTX 970. +115$
You'll be able to run most of the games on Ultra in fullhd at really high fps.

And look again at your motherboard.

The 970 has double the memory bandwidth, along with justified performance increase on all other performance values. Get the 970.

the "70" in the 970 means its the biggest bang for your buck. "80" you are entering the realm of paying a premium. 960 and lower are really entry level and should only be considered if you are playing an older game.
