I don't think SE handled this right. We should've gotten to vote on more participants' styles. More variety should have been included in the finalists.

I don't want to appear ungrateful; a new hairstyle is a new hairstyle, and I'm not entitled to anything - but I do wish that some of the artists featured in this thread, who put in a lot more work than certain doodled finalists, would get a reward.

The problem is this isn't an illustration contest, this is a hair design contest.
While I agree that these artist should get some form of commendation and that SE didn't handle the contest very well (in terms of diversity in designs and the voting system as a whole), we need to value the hair's design over the artist's artistic skills. It wouldn't be fair to those who's illustration skills are less polished or didn't submit an illustration at all (like those who submitted wigs/hairstyle photos of their own work).

If you feel that this contest was delivered poorly, please check out my petition thread. I hope that, with enough attention, it will get noticed by those in charge. You should not feel bad or let people tell you how ungrateful you are for having valid thoughts and concerns.

Also, I don't think the artists who did get chosen deserve anything less than our congratulations. Feeling that our choices are limited in both selection and quantity isn't their fault and my thoughts, in the least, don't question their integrity.

I'm just blown away by the amount of talent displayed in this thread.

You're right, of course. I didn't phrase that right: certain finalists simply didn't seem to put much thought into their design (such as, for example, Quistis hair), whereas certain posts here are very unique and well thought out. (I could spent a whole day just linking to them!)

And thanks for the support, SinisterJointss and Glasya. I love FFXIV, and the dev team has done an awesome job on so many things, that I won't be threatening to pelt the Mizzenmast with rotten tomatoes sourced from Gridania over a poorly implemented hairstyle contest.

Still, it would've been nice to see twenty different and original hairstyles as the finalists. One of each kind of hairstyle, and not so many repeats.

I'm new here, so I hope I don't make a fool of myself by doing something wrong while trying to make a comment with a picture :P I made an account in the forum just to post my entry, which sadly didn't make it (T_T). I didn't want it to go to waste and decided to share it with others (especially since I sacrificed sleep for it to be ready in 3 days).

It must feel awful to be one of the finalists and have everyone tell you that it's boring, not creative and shouldn't have been chosen. At least in this thread there is a circle of people who love each others works. I wonder how true it would be if some of these would have been in the finals instead. I feel there is merit in all these hairstyles here and in the finals.

It does, it feels really awful. The amount of hate for who got chosen is so over the top it's ridiculous, pretty much every page in these hair threads has someone saying how awful the finalists are and how everything else would have been better. Whether mine wins or loses at this point doesn't even matter, in fact I don't even want to win anymore. Everyone is so ungrateful I wish SE would just pull the plug and say we'll try again when you guys can do something other than criticize your fellow players and complain.

You all could have posted your pictures and your opinions WITHOUT insulting all of the probably super happy people (like me) who got chosen. It makes me sad and I hope none of the finalists are young enough to take it to heart, because words are words and insults are insults no matter what form the words come in.

Um... okay first off, this is a public internet forum, people can and will speak their minds, and you are very much entitled to not like what they have to say about the situation.

Secondly, I've yet to see anyone ACTUALLY lash out at the individuals themselves (granted I haven't read EACH AND EVERY post in this thread, maybe 90%), but the way the people who picked out the finalists picked their choices, which I too, question this method. If only because a clear cheater was found out and awarded a finalist spot, yet someone who did play by the rules, wasn't allowed in. This is now the second contest they have allowed a cheater to actually win/place. Thankfully they retracted both times, but still... it makes you wonder how well they actually pay attention to these contests now (I know I question it...)

You seem to be the one on some advent witch hunt, wanting to blame everyone for simply voicing their opinions, which in it's own right is just criticizing everyone else and their opinions. MANY people here, me included, do not like the actual hairstyle that was used, no one is really saying "OMG what awful artwork, what awful pictures, what awful people!" It's more of a "Wow... this seems very un-creative to MY personal opinion and tastes, I wish something else more not seen to what we already have would have been show cased and/or winning."

This is just my 2 gil on the situation of course... but you seem to be elevating the situation well beyond what it actually is.
