We should ally with the Garleans

Eorzea and the Garlean Empire both have a common goal: Elimination of the primal threat forever. Only our means differ.

The Eorzean alliance in some misguided view doesn't want kill the source of the problem, the beastmen. The beastmen as a whole are not friendly with the races of man and will never stop trying to kill us or summon primals. I agree with the empire, genocide all the beastman races and we could work together to do that.

The problem is not the beastmen, it is the Ascians.
You can kill every beastmen like the Garleans, but the Ascians would just teach common people how to summon primals.
The Garleans way to solve the problem is the wrong way.

We need more figures like Gabranth and Drace from FFXII who...actually remain loyal to their homeland (unlike Cid and Lucia) whilst still being likeable and relatable.

It was also about Primals and how Primals can be created even from the best of intentions with disastrous consequences. And that one particular Primal had nothing to do with Beastmen.

Bahamut got killed by the Allagans during one of their invasions. The Ascians showed Tiamat how she can bring back her dead lover, not knowing that the Ascians tricked her and that they work together with the Allagans to enslave the primal version of Bahamut.

Even if somehow they pull an Allagan and recreate a great seal similar to the one in silver tear lake the Asciens can just teach people Black/White magic. And if Ceruleum = aether then I'm sure Garleans are already slowly sapping the world of it's aether via magitek. It might explain why Allagans created sustainable clean energy via the Crystal Tower harnessing power from the Sun.

Sure, stuff has happened in the past. However what happening now is Garlemald is the one causing the issues. If it was Ala Mhigo or Ishgard or even any of the starting three nations we would probably be opposing them. Technically we sort of do with Ishgard.

If Garlemald stopped attacking everyone, messing with things they shouldn't be and causing most of the problems we probably wouldn't be treating them as enemies.

I'd sooner run sas Galvus and van Hydrus through than side with them. Nael and Livia have been dealt with, and Nero has, for lack of a better term, redeemed himself.

The only Garlen I had ever considered Siding with was The Black Wolf, Gaius van Belsar. After spending almost a decade and a half as the sovereign general of Ala Mihgo, attempting to foil the revival of the meteor project, and being quite outspoken against genocidal conquest (Seeming to prefer assimilation like Rome under Julius Caesar) I thoroughly believe under different circumstances Gaius could have been our ally.

Oh, not to mention he was also Cid nan Garlond's surrogate father as well.

Save for the Autumn War the City States haven't really warred with each other much prior to the Garleans turning up.

Speaking of real life parellels that reminds me.. That period is probably a direct reference to the warring states period in ancient Chinese history which was itself a period of war between different city states like in Eorzea's past.

And to expand on that this period only ended when the Qin, who were a foreign power, conquered all the warring states and established the Qin Dynasty. Maybe the Garleans are also a reference to the Qin and whats to come of Eorzea?

Simply put, the Garleans are Imperialists. Their driving force might be the same as ours, but their MO is literally "Because they can't do it right, we will save them from themselves."

I never did the crystal tower quest since I started playing shortly before heavensward launched but anyway was their any mention of the Allaghans doing any genocide like the Garleans before Xande retook control? To me it seems like Xande was the only bad apple.

No, they used dragons as living batteries and spliced different kinds of creatures together. Allagans were quite cruel in their prime. It's impossible to know the various situations in allag since it's too long ago for anyone to have clear knowledge.
