Suggestion: More HairStyle Contests in the Furture, Please

you guys are seriously nitpicking the way they draw their eyes? the main focus is to showcase a hairstyle, so what if their "model" looks like an anime character?

Because the hairstyle depicted may look great on the anime model they drew but would look much worse on someone with realistic facial structure.

The reason people want to force the template is that a person who draws a good model is more likely to win even if their hairstyle isn't actually favorable (I'm looking at you Female #8). You could have a really nice hairstyle but on a boring model and then another that only looks good on a cute anime model and that one will get more votes just because of that.

Which is why I suggested it to be drawn in the style of Eorzean races.

I don't have an "issue" with it, I'm pointing out that I feel that the model used for that entry greatly influenced people's votes.

Had the artist simply put that hairstyle on the base template, I'm fairly certain it would've amassed less votes

I would love to see more design contests in the future! Not just for hairstyles but for other things too. This one was really fun!

This really shouldn't matter. The FFXIV devs are professionals and this is a design contest, not a illustration contest. They will ultimately be thinking of the design and what it would look like implemented into the game. So long as the design is readable the style of the art shouldn't matter. You only have to look at the chosen finalists and the range of art skill in the entries to see this.

I didn't vote on how well they were drawn. I voted on what I could easily see my character with, and from there which my favorite was.

I don't think you're giving the playerbase enough credit. Where there certainly will be people picking the prettiest illustration, I think the majority of people playing the game will be thinking about how it will look on their character.
It just happens to be that in general the most nicely rendered designs are also the easiest to see design wise, so I think that has a huge impact as well.
Also artists with existing fanbases probably have the advantage here too, but I feel that would be the same regardless of having a template or not.
