Relics in FFXI were a much better example of how relic longevity was. Even well after the several expansions Excalibur was still good to have and could be upgraded. YEARS later it wasn't truly replaced. Having an Aegis upgraded was just as good as Ochain.

There is nothing good about relics in this game after what, 6 months? And don't even try to deny that when thread after thread of people being annoyed that one fight could get you a better weapon than all that crap like atma and lights for a shiny weapons.

They were all bis if you made it so, also the whiners were idiots who wanted instant gratification using the "I could get a weapon just as good" bandwagon trip fallacy not realising that exact excuse made their complaints even more apparent of their lack of cognitive capability.

Compared to FFXI relic weapons and how long they lasted. Yes, it's a significantly shorter amount of time. What like 6+years FFXI relic versus the several months the relic were "Bis" in FFXIV.

FFXIV had lvl 75 cap for years.....even then SE added mythic weapons -_- and that weapons really were a pain in the rear to get.

we knew that HW expansion was coming with lvl 60 gear and that relics werent going to be upgraded.

FFXIV relics are like wow legendary weapons , cool to have for that expansion and while leveling, maybe until 1 raid drop, after that useless.....not even usable as glamour

I remember reading somwhere that those relic weapons were never designed to be "the best"
They were basically an alternative to get a better weapon without having to join a static or force yourself through ex primals.

I take atma over the book phase.
Nothing screams epic relic weapon as sitting in the middle of nowhere for literal hours waiting for a fate to spawn.

Oh...my...god...does everyone remember this scenario? I am sitting and waiting for Giant Seps.......for three hours.....I missed my whole night of playing the game just to wait for that damn FATE. my entire FC is having fun doing other stuff while I am waiting for a damn FATE. But thinking back on it now...it was not that bad and it made me feel like I accomplished something. I had the worst time with the ATMA step...seriously took 12 days of playtime (4-5 hours a night) without getting the ATMA of the Water-Bearer in Upper La Noscea. All in all the ATMA step I started on 3-30 and got the last one on 4-26. Playing at this time about 6 nights a week averaging 4-5 hours a night...not too bad when you think about it.

My hopes are that they don't do anything like the "LIGHT" step again...oh my god doing frigging Garuda Burn strat and T4...made me never want to run those again. I could not even get my Tank mount out of T4 because I was doing Relic for my Bard.
I would hope for a mixture of Books, ATMA's (not dungeon ATMA's though...that was shit) and they better keep the crafting need to a minimum...I don't want to be spending like 5-10 million on a weapon.

Considering it had taken me over 3 months to get all the damn atma at the time i think the book portion was slightly better, even if i had to wait 4-6 hrs for a darn fate to pop.
Dungeon drops was perhaps on par though, rng was stupid. And crafting... what the heck
Relic could come in 4.0 for all i care, my sanity needs the break, lol
