    I think red mage should have random spouts of healing thrown into its rotation to stay true to what it is supposed to be. Nothing so major that would let them be able to heal fully, but like maybe something like Assize? Except it leans more towards damage.

    Understandable, mudras are a pain. If SAM ended up a DPS I would switch instantly, if not for the large amount of glamour sets that I've collected overtime.

    I would have to say, for this game (XIV) Red Mage should be a healer (in XI RDM was a class that could do DPS or backup healing) with RDM you have EN spells as well as buffs/debuffs Here's the link for RDM, SAM should be a Tank (in XI SAM was intended to be a tank but the players turned it to DPS), SAM would have higher than average HP and hold hate by high damage, Heres the link to SAM, as far as DPS goes there is too many, can you imagine if they added only DPS, that would mean that the healers and tanks would be out numbered by a ridiculous amount, DPS complains about long que times but if they add more DPS then it'll lower the % of healers and tanks queing up.

    During one of the live letters on the lead up to Heavensward when they announced the new jobs Yoshi said they experimented with Samurai as the new tank and the end result wasn't a samurai and thus Dark Knight was the shoe in for the tank position. Samurai will ultimately end up a DPS because it fits the theme more. Red mage is a toss up.

    Not even close. They've never said the "end result wasn't a samurai". They opted to go with Dark Knight because it fit the theme of the expansion better and with Ninja having just come out they didn't want to introduce another Eastern themed job so suddenly. Samurai fits the theme of tank or dps just the same depending on which kind of samurai we're talking about.

    The armored variety, which I'm sure most people want their samurai to look like, is most definitely in the tank category, wearing heavier armor and protecting others fits romanticized samurai quite well, especially some of the iconic FF Samurai characters such as Cyan. The non-armored, kinagashi wearing samurai archetype on the other hand, most definitely fits the dps category, wearing light robes and likely being some kind of quick-draw attacker. This latter is the kind of samurai Yoshi-P sees when he thinks of Samurai and so if Samurai is going to be a DPS, it will be that flavor of samurai.

    Although it wouldn't be a popular decision, I think it would make more sense for Samurai's to be tanks.

    Samurai's fight with honour! I can't imagine them standing behind an enemy, hitting them in the back while they're distracted; they need to fight face to face!

    I expect one of them to look like this. :O

    I was working on an idea for SAM where your weapon skills altered the effect of the next weapon skill used (the principle behind combos but not restricted to specific abilities). Since I borrowed Auron's sword techniques as a starting point, using Dragon Fang for example would make the next weapon skill deal additional fire damage. Something along those lines.

    And yeah, RDM should be a melee+magic DPS. Utility spells for flavor (funny thing is that most of RDM's utility could come just from cross class skills and they would totally fit).

    * The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.
    * Design ideas:
    Red Mage - COMPLETE (https://tinyurl.com/y6tsbnjh), Chemist - Second Pass (https://tinyurl.com/ssuog88), Thief - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/vdjpkoa), Rune Fencer - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/y3fomdp2)
