PLEASE WAIT ANOTHER YEAR. YOU ARE SO IMPATIENT.
Ishgard is a state of mind, not a location.
All good points. Though, the reason I'm excited to see Ishgard is for the internal aesthetics of the city - I'm big on the artistic points of the game, so I'm excited to see what the largest, richest city in the game has to offer.
If it's not coming, silver lining is at least I have a little more time to rally what support I can for the idealistic wish of seeing something even vaguely like the Rapture tech demo in the game. (Shamelessly plugs thread in signature). I'd always figured Ishgard was more-or-less done inside but not actually implemented - seeing as people who've position-hacked over the gate have found that there's not actually anything over there. At all. Ah, well. We'll see, I suppose.
Though, if it's not coming anytime soon, I think we should adopt Raze's philosophy.

all i know is that when ishgard opens, it better be something spectacular. silhouettes of dragons flying in the distance, dark doomy skies, cool architecture, and a jeuno/whitegate style ..... um.... marketwardauctionhouse.... screw it, just give me a pile of crap to siff through, just let there be a main hub of it.
15 abilities each? what is this... Kindergarten?A jack of all trades WHM... what is this 1989?
Was I fool for thinking chocobos, airships, and Ishgard would all be available on release?A few statements have been giving regarding Ishgard in the past: Mainly that it wouldn't open until "after battle changes", because they would be required to experience what Ishgard has to offer.
1.18 will be implementing a host of battle changes, and 1.19 is scheduled to be the release of Chocobos and Airships.
So let's just keep it simple and ask: Does this information mean that 1.18 will be the battle reforms that lead to Ishgard opening?
What information can you give us on that, if so? Can you tell us if it will be the hub of all traffic, or can we fly straight from city to city? Are the docks in the fields for field to field transport only, or is the airship network truly that extensive?
LOL.
It's pretty clear now that it doesn't seem like Ishgard is opening anytime soon - but I can't ignore my own necropost <3
I see Patch 1.19 as SE's personal admission that they didn't ever really think the game was anything but the bare bones when they tried to ship and release it. We already knew that, but they never really said it.
At least it gives me some off-time to get the rest of college out of the way >.>

I don't have the source for this, but I distinctively recall the devs at some point saying that Ishgard and it's associated content was deliberately being held back for the PS3 release or briefly thereafter.
(Mostly because they didn't want it spoiled by the state of the game.)
Is that what it says when you play the Letter from the Producer backwards? Cause I get that from the letter they sent all of us that one time in which they apologized to us and said we didn't have to pay for the subscription until they fixed it.
Strangely I didn't realize that the 1.19 Patch Notes were choreographed in just a way to spell that out again, but personally say it from SE itself.
