Don't play healers, but 60s Disable seems pretty strong. :V Especially with SCH + SMN in your group.
i'm just sad they took everything from whm and gave it to the ast. okay, the whm will still heal a bit more than an ast. but ast has his cards, more instant heals, disable and even in whm-stance a party wide shield now.
makes no sense to play whm anymore, because you can play ast in whm stance now and it's the same class with more utility c.c
This subforum. I swear. It's the one role in the game where the partners have to work together throughout the whole encounter. And yet this is the bitchiest bunch of people on these forums. We're happy to sit at the viable healer table now. Let's leave it at that.
Well yes, the astro has the same base potentices as the whm but you have to remember a few things. While Syngery blows DS out of the water with single target healing, DS is a far more useful cd with aoe healing being able to affect medica 2 and the regen. Medica II also has more range than aspected Helios since SE want healing range to be a thing. Mp management, the whm does have the edge here, both have SoS but the Whm also has assize which restores 10mp on a 90 sec cd. The whm can also place asylum while the astro can't place CU, the whm has tetra and bene (though they're on longer cds), in terms of dps, whm has the advantage in burst and aoe, astro does have dots that don't need to meet an accuracy check but stone 3 is 210 bs malefic II 200, aero 3 is an aoe dot and PoM actually lowers the GCD compared to Lightspeed.
Of course, it really comes down to raid utility and the thing about the astro is that they have to be slaves to RNG so we just have to wait and see.
What others have said.. All healers are now considered fine for Savage....
And as a great man once said: "R.E.L.A.X".
I think this sums up how we should approach AST. Personally, as a WHM that uses AST, I don't feel threatened by AST at all. Simply put, SCH and AST will never be able to keep up with WHM's reactive healing potency; similarly, WHM will never be able to keep up with SCH's proactive shielding. AST can be both proactive and reactive, but there are drawbacks. There is RNG built into the class; Balance, with a Royal Road buff, would certainly help burn through a DPS check quicker...if you managed to draw it rather than Ewer three times in a row. But even without it, WHM and SCH both have good DPS capabilities.I don't think the people complaining actually raid or realize the full potential of the other two healing jobs. I've been playing my astrologian all afternoon and the buffs are amazing. Do I feel they overpower white mage or scholar? They do not. They brought astrologian up to par to give them a viable spot in progression raiding.
I think this is part of the reason that the RNG is there in the first place. Throughout any raid, there will be brief moments where AST really isn't bringing anything amazing to the table (such as, as I mentioned in another thread, Ewer with a WAR/NIN/BRD party). But when you get Bole or Balance during, say, T4 or A3, you'll be happy that it's there.
Even if AST did become preferred over WHM, that would just encourage me to find new ways to heal with WHM and challenge myself.

WinterMaintenance is coming
As a healer who does not play AST:
1) I'm happy I no longer have to groan and rub my forehead any time I see my healing partner is AST.
2) I'm happy that AST threads will stop clogging up the entire freaking first page of the healer forums (hopefully)
3) I'm happy that S-E has shown that they take healer balance seriously rather than just leaving AST broken until 4.0 or whatever. That means that if for whatever reason WHM/SCH starts to fall behind, they will probably get tweaked.
Synastry is arguably the best healing CD in the game now but it's just one piece of a larger puzzle; I have played with numerous AST since the patch and they feel like they are where they need to be without being OP.
People screaming about being replaced need to calm down.
