I think this would be a genius idea. I have played other MMOs where it's been used for foolish and useless chat or rants/trolling so I usually filter it off. But I do also believe that FFXI and FFXIV have a more mature player base, and that it would liven up the server. I mean... it's rather depressing walking into Ul'dah, seeing hundred of players, and no one responding to anything.. I can try to look for a group for hours and nothing and no one shouting anything. Not to talk, not to find a group... nothing... I think this would encourage people a lot and also it'd have the players from all over, so there'd have to be something going on.

I would believe that the reason the audience in FFXI and FFXIV seem on general to be more "mature" is because of its "adult swim"(in the literal sense, not the animation block) design. There are "limits" in place that would deter a seemingly more "immature" crowd like no world PvP, no rabid jumping or other crazy physics defying stuff, the gameplay is very much team-based, which means less room for douchery, being an entry in a series that is usually shrugged off by the western gamer public, and at least for FFXIV, a higher barrier to entry due to high PC requirements.

Take away these things, and I'm pretty sure that you'll have plenty of "WoW-heads" heading to the game and bringing it down to every other game's level.

These are just my thoughts on the perceived maturity of these games' communities, and is hardly indicative of anything with factual basis. Personally I don't think it has anything to do with more maturity as much as it has to do with the game attracts a certain demographic with certain personality characteristics that may not be in line with the audience of other MMOs.
