I didn't say anything about the near future. Yeah, point stabilization is going to take a few months, but it's going to happen. And after it does it won't magically disappear. It's the final adjustment for the materia, job and leveling system to the point where they become valid features. And it's not like raids are going to be the end all be all of content.

I'm just scared that trying to launch the game when you have brand new MMOs that COME with epic raids and a balanced system (ex. SW TOR), tera, Diablo 3, etc, will lead to failure.
Rift pulled 1000s of people away from this game (i mean probably 70% of the original end-game players on wutai went to rift)
And SW TOR is like 100 times more anticipated that rift was. (already well over a million preorders i think)

Apparently the Star Wars beta client is 27 gigs... FFXIV is still around 9 gigs, is it not?

Even if that additional 17-18 gigabytes is just voiceovers, I'm jealous.

Yoshi should worry less about destroying FFXIV's good features and worry more about adding content .

Why does my character do these things? Raid, grind, etc? What is he striving toward? What is his purpose?

After looking at the various grind-threads all up in this forum, you have to wonder, is there more to life than just the grind?

Is life a grind and then you die? Or is there something more out there, beyond the great blue yonder for which we are meant to strive?

We are Walkers of the Path, but what even is our path? Just to grind our days away? Do we follow this path blindly without even knowing where it is taking us?

Maybe if my character could create his own, private, Player-run Company, and build a house, or a ship, maybe then he could look back and say he has lived a full life. Maybe if there was PvP, why perhaps then he could feel accomplisment from taking on foes with similar intelligence. And maybe, just maybe, if there was the freedom to play as he wanted, freedom to play as whatever role he wanted (see armory system), then he could perhaps find solace in that too.

But alas! Woebetide him, for as he can do none of these things, and with no promise of such things in the future either, he shall be forever lost for meaning and purpose.

Indeed, his prospects are looking very grim.

It was based around a view in general, not just video games.

If you're not enjoying something you stop doing it.

In real life it you means you just avoid whatever it is and move on to more fun things.

In a video game it means you stop playing it and find one that is fun.
