    Edit: Reading up on the Rift's housing system now, you can have two dimensions for free, and I'm assuming these spaces are much more massive than Manors in FFXIV. On top of that, you can own an extra 18 dimensions by either paying, or through in game gold. This is per character by the way.

    Actually not really, they still have the servers from launch etc.. still around, not to mention the servers they have been in general running the game still on. The available capacity that they run on is plentiful for a housing system like that since per server has quite few people actually playing and invested.

    Its pretty hard to sell off industrial grade servers anyways.

    They may not have sold them off, but maintaining them is costly especially when no one is actually on them. Could have quite easily used them for their other games, like Trove. Anyhow, look at my edit. They can have up to 20 dimensions per character, that blows FFXIV out of the water entirely.
