That's correct. You could choose between the JP and the NA/EU datacenters, but then, on the NA/EU ones, you had some that had the EU tag (or legacy). For example, Moogle (EU).

As a EU player, I welcome the EU server and I dont mind the maintaince (even if it took longer then 5 days), but I do hope they do the transfer 2 weeks before 3.1 or just before 3.2.
The only problem i have with maintenance being 4 or 5 days a month is i don't pay for 24 days of gameplay i pay for 30 so either give me my money back or give me extra game time. Also build more servers for less lag, another reason i dont like playing this game sometimes is the extreme lag, almost not worth paying for, but maintenance almost everyday cause you couldnt fix something right the first time, COME ON give me extra game time Plz XD
Here's something from our lovely User Agreement. The only problem i have with maintenance being 4 or 5 days a month is i don't pay for 24 days of gameplay i pay for 30 so either give me my money back or give me extra game time. And yes, you have agreed to them.5. INTERRUPTION TO THE SERVICE
From time to time, in order to provide our customers with the optimal gaming experience, it is necessary for Square Enix to conduct routine maintenance on the computers and/or servers that support the Game. During these times, access to the Game or support services may be interrupted. Access may also be temporarily suspended in whole or in part, without notice, due to emergency repairs, fire, flood, explosion, war, strike, embargo, governmental action or failure to act, the act of any civil or military authority, act of God, or by any other causes beyond Square Enix's control, or any other reasons for which Square Enix, in its sole discretion, deems that temporary suspension is necessary. You acknowledge that disruptions of service may occur and waive any causes of action against Square Enix in any way arising from or related to any such disruptions of service.
how is that fair for NA players on Chaos? not only that they have to wait 5 days but they'll have to move away and lose houses too?
Chaos was always intended for EU players and shown in proof in this thread.
So they either get a free transfer or need to deal with it.
Also, your location does not matter at all, only your server.

Isn't the whole point of the data centres that they are separate server clusters? This would mean they are entirely independent of each other. Considering that the Chaos data centre has crashed in the past with no impact at all on the others I would say with certainty that they are fully capable of shutting down just the EU servers for this procedure.
Personally I won't mind being forced to take a break. It'll be worth it.
I agree, but the servers are not divided by language, only location. But obviously, the majority of players in NA area are going to speak English, and the majority of players in JP area are going to speak Japanese. What do you expect SE to do about it? Make an Australia only server? Lol, that would be lonely. The majority of English speaking players in JP region are on Tonberry, and it works just fine. We have players from Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines and more, and we all speak English. SE can't make servers in every country...
