[DRK] Wanna know why Unleashed & Abyssal Drain are both needed?

Unmend is higher damage for less MP, clearly better when attacking a single target. So it's got a clear purpose. Moreso because unmend is even more useful on DRK than the PLD/WAR counterparts. When you're at range from any enemy, unmend is the best use of MP for a DRK as long as it doesn't break a combo. Abyssal costs too much and does too little damage to have that purpose. PLD/WAR don't really get that benefit because their ranged move costs too much TP to be too practical in that aspect.

No offense, but you're not going to sit there and continue to spam unmend once the fight has already begun, even on a single target instance. And the damage difference between unmend and abyssal drain is so insignificant on an opener that it's kind of a moot point, especially since the whole point is to obtain aggro anyways. Not to mention that if they did as you suggested and reduced the mp cost for abyssal drain, you'd still rather just throw out unmend to save hot bar space for something else.

You are supposed to spam Unmend when you are running out of TP instead of standing there looking at your own reflection in the boss's eyes.

Unmend at half the MP cost of AD and 30 potency more more than justify its use as a TP recovery spell.

Yes, well sort of. While I agree this is what he SHOULD be doing, the fact that you HAVE to do this is definitely a design flaw and a huge oversight by the development team.
