Well, to be fair, that game is over 12 years old and the console itself is 15, so...I remember everyone complaining that the game couldn't be upgraded cause it was held back by the PS2. Heck the "PS3 Limitations" is just an extension of the "PS2 Limitations" joke. Also you are comparing an MMO released near the launch of the PS2 vs an MMO released a couple of months before it's end. Heck, play FFXI on the PS2 right now, god damn does it chug (if it doesn't crash). Was playing it to see how the game fared a few months back.
This game is old 2 years and PS3 almost 9 (or 8? IDK) so...
Making new models, locations, content for this game in way that even PS3 can handle it will always hold us back. I won't go into technical details as other people who are more experienced in this area explained it 100 times already.
PS3 support should be canceled by 4.0, not earlier though.
I cannot really see this game going for 5+ years if it keeps support for obsolete hardware, atleast graphically it would stay the same, dx11 was just a small fix, we need more work on textures.

That's what I have been saying. I see no problem in discontinuing future support for PS3 as of FFXIV 4.0. Although I do think that unless the number of PS3 players has dropped to a very small number by then, they are likely to keep the FFXIV 2.X and 3.X content available for PS3 until the 5.0 Expansion (assuming and hoping we get that far). Of course by then we should be looking PS5 square in the eye, so I guess we will have to wait and see what happens.
Yeah I am sorry, I thought that the quote of your post on the top of this page was whole. So I was actually replying to something that was out of context. After looking back, I completely agree with your opinion. And yeah, I also think that even after dropping support, old content should be still avaible to PS3 players. They bought the game, they should be able to play it.That's what I have been saying. I see no problem in discontinuing future support for PS3 as of FFXIV 4.0. Indeed. Personally I am looking forward to the 4.0 expansion, and then to see what the PS5 brings to the table in terms of hardware. I'd hope that by 4.0 or 5.0 Yoshi's team will have HD textures and perhaps even instanced housing....well, one can dream.Yeah I am sorry, I thought that the quote of your post on the top of this page was whole. Im playing on PS3 because charackters actually look like charackters <.<I honestly do not know how anyone still playing on PS3 is looking forward to continue playing on it and not making arrangements to upgrade to a PS4 at this point. I made the switch as soon as PS4 became available and could not imagine ever going back.
I understand that not everyone is able to do that on day one but PS4 has been out almost two years now and XIV has been on it for over a year... anyone serious about continuing to play this game on a console should've been able to make the switch by now. I hope Yoshida keeps his word about cutting out PS3 access after 3.0 is finished.
Not like on ps4.. where every1 is a thin model - never seen food....
Wut. They are the same models.... the only difference is load times and draw distances. Probably a lower resolution as well.
Uh... it's been years so I'm not sure. I do know that it's still an original 60g and that's what counts for me. Mind, it's always a good idea to back-up your data to an external before doing any kind of send-in. Just in case.
You never upgraded your hard drive? I've done SSD and hybrid (the SSD crapped out on me) in my PS3 and the difference in load times for installed games is like night and day. So yes, a better hard drive is magic. Hell, I was so impressed with the performance that I put a hybrid drive in my PS4!This is loads of it. By this logic PC exclusive game with much better texture and same amount of load time must be performing magic on HHD. Console is worse at performance compared to PC is no news, if SE insist on keeping one version then console is very much holding PC back. (Visually, at least. One aspect I really wish they would improve upon.)
