I too used to be on PS3, got the PS4 at launch and even tried the FFXIV beta when it came out. Never went back
The difference really was between night and day and i also agree about dropping PS3 support. Actually surprised it could run HW

PS3 is being dropped at 4.0 they showed a slide that said so back in E3's live letter, just after they talked about the invite a friend campaign upgrade if I recall well

PS3 was so bad doing fates in Coerthas in ARR, when I bought a PS4 and transferred games I was so happy and amazed at how good the game looked. I can't see the game staying on PS3 for much longer. But wanting crossplay taken out completely is idiotic.

I'd bet the ps4 is more powerful than well over half of the PCs that connect to this game. The ps3 could be limiting what they can do though.

Im stopping you right now, don't ever ever ever think that the PS4 is more powerful then even a sub average PC, cause its not, Im not going to let this devolve into a PC vs PS4 thread, but facts speak from themselves, the PS4 uses hardware that is 5-6 years old for the PC, meaning it was top end PC during that time, so speaking on specific terms hardware and graphically the PS4 is 5-6 years behind PC. There are tons of topics about this so just google them, do not let this become a console vs PC thread, Im merely only stating the facts. Sorry if this screams PC master race, its just that my Niece was told by someone at futureshop that she would be better off buying a PS4 then a PC cause PS4 has better graphics, she was looking to get a fairly decent gaming computer too for her schooling since this would be her first PC, so you can imagine how pissed I was when I visited a few months later and found out what happened, ever since then when I hear people clamoring about how graphically superior the PS4 is I feel the need to remind them that its superior if your using 7 year hardware on the PC. :/

You are wrong. Period. First off, it's easy to see that you got your information from the console wars and the side you agree with. You shoukd really look into it before spouting off though... I'm a PC player. If I were in those console wars, I'd be defending PC as the superior platform. I just built another new one that has pretty much all of the newest and best hardware. I make a lot of money working on computers.

The ps4 is more powerdlful than the majority of computers that connect to this game. Period. Most peopel don't have the top end hardware. Your claim of 6 years old is also kind of dumb. Most PC hardware out right now is that old if you are talking the technology. Processors and graphics cards haven't improved much lately... the next generation of cards is just now starting to be released. Memory has gone nowhere in that time.

i like my PS4 as much as the next person, but for MMOs its horrabad! No matter how you want to look at it, the bottom line is that the overall game complexity is limited to what the PS4 can support in addition to how much work they will have on server side. After all if the client cant perform the extra work, it needs to be done on server side. Granted some of it is done on server side to prevent cheating, but other items such as customizing equipment colors, character face models, adding character features such as customizable faces and horns adds a lot of client processing (for your char as well as those of the other people next to you.)

Then add in limitations based on future development. Since you cannot add memory or upgrade the CPU or GPU, once you have maxed the resources then thats it. The resources for customizable Au Ra horns today could prevent an entire new job tomorrow.

That is unless SE would actually allow different platforms to have different experiences. Then again if they did that everyone would have their head explode. Imagine if PC users could have 50 more face models, could view the TP of party members or have more complex models for hair, clothing / other customizations. People would lose their minds.

Dont believe me, np just take a look in the forums for all the HW benchmark complaints because PS4 didnt have access to one...

Personally though, i think SE should separate the platforms a little. Let the PS4 players have what their HW can support and let the PC / Mac users have the options that their HW can support.

People - especially devoted gamers, tend to forget that the PS4 is a reasonably powerful machine. It can't compare to the cutting-edge watercooled monsters powergamers boast, but compared to a standard Best Buy desktop that a person buys for other reasons and just happens to play games on as well, it pretty much blows them away. There are companies that develop specifically for these cutting-edge machines, and they understand while doing so that they're taking a hit to potential sales.

SE did not take this path. They developed for more general machines in order to reach a wider audience - and for console as well, for a larger audience, still. In developing for console, they did so with the understanding that eventually computers will evolve well-beyond what the PS4 is capable of, but they will still need to support it if they want to maintain the console market. And they most likely WILL support it - just see how long they clung to the PS2 for FFXI!

Developing for the PS3 was the greater surprise, but it's pretty obvious why they did so: the PS4 wasn't ready in time for the game's release. The PS3 was ALREADY past its prime, though, and the problems run into by FFXI and PS2 were already showing themselves with FFXIV and PS3. This was a problem they were prepared for, though, and they acknowledged this by letting players know in advance that PS3 would be discontinued, and even offering a free PS3->PS4 upgrade program.

Is PS3 holding us back? Yes, but this is known, and steps are already in place to phase it out. Just be patient.

Is PS4 holding us back? Not now; SE is specifically developing the game for computers of the PS4's power level, and the game will look good for several years to come. Eventually, though, yes, continuing support of the PS4 will cause the PC version to show its age. Unless SE sponsors a PS4->PS5 upgrade, we can expect this game to live out its life tied to the PS4.

Are PCs holding us back? Seems a silly question, but the answer is actually much the same as for PS4: SE is developing for mainstream computers, not powergaming computers. Lower-end computers will eventually hold us back, and will continue to do so as long as SE perceives that they are the predominant household computer.

How is that a lie? 4.0 comes after 3.0. For that matter, 5.0 comes after 3.0. They could wait until 9.0, and they'd STILL be dropping PS3 after 3.0...
