Less servers on a datacenter means longer queue times. And I don't think the EU servers are causing much lag for the NA servers right now anyways, seeing as they're located at the same spot.

so those NA players on Chaos data center will have to transfer to other data center?
The EU servers are all on the same data center (Chaos) as mentioned above. As there are no servers flagged as NA on Chaos, I see no reason to bring servers down. We've seen whole data centers go down (Aether had some downtime in the week after HW released didn't it?) without the other Data centers being affected so it stand to reason they could bring one down intentionally. Except for when a new raid has been released there's no real race between servers so it does seem a little pointless to bring down servers not being mnoved unless absolutely necessary.I have a feeling it'll affect ALL worlds, since server migration is best when they're down.
Plus...the servers affected are on th NA servers.
oh man, time to binge on a game I wanted to play >_>
EDIT: I'm pretty sure this is happening at the end of the year, meaning esoterics may be unlocked at that time...maybe.
Nonetheless, we'll get more info soon
And yeah I'll need to plan what I'm doing while my server data is winging across the Atlantic (other than working).

I don't think that losing FC houses, ruining economies etc.. is better than not being able to play for 3 - 5 days.
I know that not everyone have some other games to play meanwhile, but it is not so long time for probably the best quality of life improvement since ARR was released (I know not for NA players, but imagine playing with latency issues since day 1).
Also I hope they will give people a few free days of subscription after this (even though they definitely don't have to), not for me, I honestly don't care that much about 10 euros or how much I pay, but the rant on forums will be enormous. I guarantee there will be atleast 2 "You stole 5 days from my subscription from me" every day.
Losing a week worth of Eso is more than worth the decrease in delay.
I know. People have been saying the EU servers are mixed in with the NA servers in data centers though. At the time of posting, I did not know that was incorrect. Apologies for that.
But regardless, the EU servers are not likely causing issues for the NA servers.
The person I responded to also mentioned queue times being affected by EU servers being moved, which is wrong. Lag and queue times on the NA servers will be unaffected, so NA players are not being benefited.

Because people have Free Companies, Link Shells, (FC) Houses, Friends list.
FCs would have to start over from scratch again, linkshells re-established. Any inactives would be left behind. People may lose their name in the move, meaning they possibly may lose some of the connections they once had. Some of us would lose all the gil that we've sunk into our houses, with no guarantee that we'd even get a plot on this new server. Irreplaceble housing items would be lost forever. Some of us may choose not to go because it would mean they (or people they know) would lose any of the previously mentioned.
It is far cleaner this way.
As someone pointed out in another thread, they might even find their connection improving once they are over there. (maybe)
I can only hope kind of arrangement is put in place for those that would prefer to transfer back to the NA data center.

Will finally have some time to play Witcher.
