Haven't had many healer horror stories as of late, except....


So, one time, in Stone Vigil while an FC mate and I were leveling our newbier classes...

The AST healer first kept trying to use aspected benefic on the tank without diurnal on.
They then threw Balance on themselves.
Another mob, they threw balance on the party, just as the mob died. A party-wide Balance wasted.
Then, again they threw Balance on themselves... and didn't even DPS. They could only heal the tank through the mob.
They also kept throwing Spear on the tank AFTER the tank ran off to pull bosses and had already popped their CDs.
At the second boss, the AST had cannon duty - but at one point, a whirlwind had covered the cannon the dragon was in front of. Instead of putting their regen on themselves or trying to heal through it with Aspected Helios/Helios, they stood in the whirlwind to shoot the cannon, and died from the DoT and taken damage from the descending Isgabind. Luckily, it was at the point in the fight that the rest of the party was able to kill the boss without.
They then proceeded to run around and forget to re-apply Protect.
Lastly, they drew Arrow AFTER the fight was over and didn't Spread it or even use it during the duration between fights. Not a thing done! They just let the timer time out.
Worst of all offending actions, thew threw Balance into Royal Road. More than once.
The horrible card play was atrocious, even at level 40-something.

That AST was me, at 3am.

Never again... never again will I AST at 3am.... *twitchtwitch* Couldn't keep track of my cards while that tired and couldn't even fall back on muscle memory like I can with WHM when healing that early in the morning.
(In my defense, throwing balance on myself was me trying to spread the Balance between tank's range in front of me and the range DPS behind me (using myself as the midway point) and forgetting I'd already used the Spear in Royal Road >_>; and burning a Balance - I have Spread and Royal Road next to each other OTL The rest was just horrible timing and lack of attention at 3am...)

I understand your point about the HP treshold, and I fully agree with it. Even I like to run dungeons with STR tanks, as long as they're good. What I was saying is that promoting STR accesories at all costs only brings the worst out of the majority of tanks and should consequently come with a disclaimer/a few conditions (don't do that at home kids...)

I was about to post my horror story from today but it sounds like this entire topic is dedicated to the same story, retold time and again...

tl;dr

54 DRK, STR accessories, No grit, barely meets item req. Pulls EVERYTHING (But holds nothing)

We were farming Ifrit poney in a team of 6 guys, i was Astro.
It was unsynch so not very complicated. We killed him 2 or 3 times, then an other tank join us (friend with the pf creator i think).
During this try some dps died since they didn't avoid the aoe, then the new tank begin to say : "we should kick the Aro"
Well no one reply, we were focusing on the game. Near the end we were only 3 left since every others (including the whm) had been killed in the aoe. We still manage to killed Ifrit eventhough i got the aggro.
Then after the loot, he just said :
"This Astro is a cunt. I leave"

It was one ordinary day as an Astro in FFXIV

on shiva hm, wiped 4 times cause tanks don't how to tank. Eating all the debuffs they can eat then getting 2 shot before a heal is done casting. Literally had to spam heals even when they were on full hp to make sure they somehow don't die after 1 hit. They still died and I still had to res them on the clear. The best part was they were blaming us the healers for not being able to heal them with vuln up debuffs and the extra damage from ground aoes. The whole party backed them on it....

Noct Sect spells are highly inefficient if you do not need the eHP from shields to extend the target's "maxHP" over its original threshhold. SCHs actively use their shields because they do not have a Cure II or Medica equivalent like AST does. Generally, if the raid-wide damage is not going to kill the raid or a specific target in one blow, you're better off using Helios or Benefic II.

I personally use it a lot on that fight specially for when orbs are coming, which is very consecutively, so it's up almost all the time. That way I know whoever decides to get an orb will absorb the damage and will give me some time frame (or the other healer) to cure them without them dying. MP hasn't been an issue personally. The key is knowing when to use LA and your Ewer cards when you do get them without compromising useful cards for DPS or tank. I ran with my AST today (nocturnal) a lot and when I did get AST co-healers (diurnal stance), I noticed they didn't use Synastry to help themselves out, no Disable, little AOE regen healing, ran out of MP regardless and mind you I was doing *a lot* of healing, eating 3 orbs with the help of Aspec Bene spam, AoE Healing, even using Benefic II for those hard impacts, yet my MP was always sitting like at 8-9k on last phase (start of) while theirs was already at like 4-5k. I even had to give them Ewer cards to help them out. In my opinion it all comes down to LA and Ewer cards management, also Synastry helps a lot, but not even once I saw them using it. Imagine if on top of my Synastry, they had added theirs, the fight wouldn't have given us so many headaches.

I suppose this is more of a general occurance rather than specific stories, but when running as SCH in 8 man DF, get paired with an AST, AST sits in noctural for some reason and just overwrites my shields all the friggin time. Crit adlo.....oh look aspected benefic just destroyed it........sigh. Last week it was a very bad Chrysalis run in DF due to AST in noct whilst i was SCH. Today same occurance. I have AST at 60, and i cant really say i would be running Noct Sect with a SCH.

AST/SCH is the same like AST/AST.
Can´t tell how often i paired with another AST who dont look at the Card buffs from the other AST and overwrite them :/ or use his Shields/HoTs 1-2 Seconds after me.
I stopped then and let them do Aoe Hots or Shileds, its a waste of my mana.

tbh you can always tell when it's a bad party rather than your healing if the group starts collectively whinging at you when things go wrong.
