Yeah it's a Final Fantasy MMO. FF is strong with their storylines.
You people are actually surprised you have to go through a story to continue on.
Juuuust like many ooother gamesss whether it's MMO or Single player.

You can be strong with story without forcing it. Forcing it doesn't make the game any better or worse, people that don't want to read it. Don't read, have no clue what's going on and still enjoy the MMO aspect of it. Also in maaannnyyy other MMOs you don't have to go through the story, you have to at most leave a starting area and the story is still optional there.
