So, there's supposed to be a lore behind Frontlines—for some reason the grand companies can't agree on who gets. . . control over the Carteneau flats and the Allagan relics—right?

Then Seal Rock, we're downloading data from Allagan relics with our USB flash drives to bring back to our Grand companies scientists so they can do stuff with it—and it'd be a shame if another grand company got a hold of that data so, kill them with fire—right? Or is it WiFi? Is that why the S ranks give us more data faster? It's because they S ranks use fiber optics—isn't it? O

A really, really big weapon that makes Ultima Weapon look like a child's toy is hidden somewhere in those ruins.

You find that out at some point in the 2.x MSQ somewhat early on at level 50.

The GCs are fighting because none of them want any of the others to be able to get access to it.

But they can't fight for real without breaking a tentative peace, so they staged some sort of war game to...solve nothing at all, because no one ever wins.

In other words, the lore for this is a joke that is a gaping, nonsensical plot hole in and of itself.

It's "civilized combat" to settle which GC gets claim over the allagan ruins, nevermind we could get a repeat of whats going on and the Garleans (or anyone in league with the remaining Acsians really) where they sack the allagan data/tech, reverse engineer it and we have a repeat of the ultima weapon fiasco.

Yes, nothing is more "civilized" than (Slaughter) objectives. It's not even training to self better themselves (wolves den). We're fighting over pieces of rock which may or may not have any value like the damned tomestones that are more often than not, stronger than reforged weapons of legend.

The Frontlines campaigns allowed the 3 GC's to decide who gets control over the Allagan ruins that Bahamut/old elf guy unearthed when they leveled the cartaneu flats.
I believe the guy who gives you access says "Don't think of it as war. Think of it as organized violence for the sake of gaining territory" (So... War then. Got it).
It's basically a big joke. There's no real logic to it, and no one ever wins; so, the PvP lore is stuck in limbo until SE says otherwise. As far as I know, Seize has no lore, but it probably follows the same logic as above.
Currently, THE ONLY PVP LORE THAT IS EVEN NOTEWORTHY is the possibility that Omega Weapon is sleeping under the ruins we're fighting over. They say it was a weapon built to take on King Bahamut himself, but, as the Coils are now over and the plot has progressed past this point (trying to avoid spoilers here), there's no word on if Omega will ever become a Raid or Trial in the future. Fingers crossed, though, cuz that would be awesome.

Do the GCs even have the means to unzip the .rar files found in the tomestones and tomeliths? I thought that was Garlond Ironworks' schtick, unless the GCs really like to sit on unplayable piles of Allag's equivalent of Chex Quest.

Either way, regarding a certain weapon, I can see something like Carteneau Flats - Subterranean Ruins (Suppression)...

...where three GCs duke it out to see how hard they can damage the partially reactivated monster of a mech while collecting chunks of its ever-reconstructing body (y'know, for "data"). After reaching an arbitrary number of "800 points" or whatever from scraping the poor thing after its awkward attempt at self-defense, it'll just simply rebuild itself for the next match while we pretend GCs are actually going somewhere with this.

That way, they can keep up the wacky loop of not (unfortunately) resolving anything as far as a story goes.

B rank = USB 1.0, A rank = USB 2.0 and S rank = USB 3.0

However the allagans were smart and included DRM protections to deter people including but not limited to:

• Live snakes;
• Code wheels;
• FBI warnings;
• Sony rootkits;
• etc.
