The 24 man already serves as the easy raid, alexander normal should have been a medium difficulty raid. And savage coulda been the hard one.
When I heard about "normal" I knew immediately it was going to be LFR. And was glad for it.
If every group you had was downing it first try when it came out, you got some exceptional groups. Mine all had so many wipes involved, that I refused to heal A4 as a result of the stress dealing with stupid that couldn't follow simple directions.

If FFXIV only has one real avenue to endgame progression then that's a problem, it's either faceroll easy, or incredibly difficult. Where's the inbetween? I can't commit to a static group, not due to other things I've got to do (although at times that plays a part) but due to my shitty internet connection. At times my ping could jump to 500+ where it's literally impossible for me to perform even close to optimally, and other times it stays at a somewhat decent 150-220 and that's with programs to help ping, otherwise FFXIV is mess, even with 150 ping Fuma Shuriken manages to clip into my GCD. With easy mode Alexander I can just jump in whenever my internet's fine, and if it starts acting up mid-raid and we wipe, I can leave and take the 30 minute hit. What static would be willing to take that hazard? Sure I could play very early mornings where no one else is using the internet (4 other very internet heavy users) and probably manage to find a static to play at that time, but that comes at a detriment to things I actually have to do irl. With Normal mode in WoW I can easily jump into a pug when my internet's fine and play, while still having some form of a challenge, even if my internet was acting it up it would get to 200 at the highest because they have Australian servers, and at best it's 30.

I'm grateful and all for having the chance to do Alex before it's outdated content that no one cares about, but it's awfully boring after a few weeks. Why not add a new difficulty? They've shown they're more than capable of it with Extreme primals.

The same thing you're asking for is the same thing that happened in WoD, and it was boring. In a few weeks when you start to outgear your middle of the road version, you're going to be on these boards complaining that there isn't challenging content that's not savage mode in the game. Which is what happened in WoD.

You can always pug savage, I see people do it all the time on my server. In a couple weeks when more and more people have more gear, it'll be easier and easier and you can pug savage to your hearts content.

What you find easy, some others find hard. The difficulty of story mode is easy enough to allow people who play at a lower level than you do to see it. Because that was the biggest complaint with Coil was that people wanted to see the story, so SE delivered it. Making story mode the "medium difficulty" shuts out some people and you're going to see their complaints again.

So people are not interested in doing savage because story mode lets them see the story, yet complain that there is no end game content. You see where this is a little wrong?

I absolutely agree with you, and I think it's the same problem WoW is having. The expansion comes out everyone is having fun blasting through the content, about 100 hours in everything is stale unless you do the Heroic/Mythic raids. The raiders continue to play because they are having fun while everyone else slowly unsubs. They demand casual content and when the devs give them casual content like garrison, shipyard, apexis, timewalker everyone says this shit sucks and unsubs.

This is the point I'm trying to make, casual content does suck! It's boring, it takes no time at all to complete, and at the end of the day you start looking for other games to play. It's just that no1 seems to agree with me so we keep getting this watered down stuff.

I think your problem is that you have too much time to play.

WoW's currently designed for folks that have about 45 minutes a day, tops.

FFXIV has plenty of non raid content that is a colossal time sink. Go craft or gather and get into the red scrip mess and you'll see what I'm talking about.

isn't WoW now doing what FF14 is doing with the whole "new 50 rank pvp system", "new class quests where you are the main character" and that "new artifact weapon that levels up as you do stuff" ?

What are you talking about? WoW was doing that before FFXIV:ARR ever came out. Gear that levels with you was introduced in Wrath of the Lich King in 2008-2009. The character as the main hero? That was Mists of Panderia, circa 2012, ALSO predating FFXIV:ARR. Ranked PvP? Holy s***, that was introduced in Burning Crusade, the first expansion the game ever had!

Yoshida borrowed all the things you mentioned from WoW, not the other way around. Some of those things are over ten years old.

Artifact weapons are new to WoW, however, but isn't something that started with FF14.

Not at all. The artifact weapons that level with you were around when Cataclysm was new. I would know. I played the game and used the gear to help with leveling because they gave XP bonuses.

Heirlooms aren't the same thing as Artifact weapons.
