With the capturing of data by Microsoft, this can be reduced via the installation process (select advanced options and tailor as needed). Other things to keep in mind while upgrading to Windows 10 is if you have dual GPUs (for example, Intel and Nvidia), you may want to try checking in on the RTPM on both devices -- if one uses RTPM and the other doesn't, you may have trouble with the system recognizing the other device. I ran into this issue when I upgraded to Win10 last night.

Like others have mentioned though, if you don't have a strong reason for needing to upgrade, hold off until you need to.

I upgraded the first day it was available. I've had three minor issues, only two of which apply to FFXIV:

1) My launcher no longer saves my username, even when I check the box. Maybe this is a permissions issue, but it's pretty minor.

2) The Win+G keystroke that brings up 10's new game bar (which optionally handles game recording and screenshots) doesn't always work properly when I try to open it in FFXIV, but this seems to also be the case for just about every other application too, but if it was a feature you wanted to enjoy with the game: good luck.

3)This one is not related at all to FFXIV, but if you have an XBOX One you may have to go into the Microsoft store on your PC to upgrade the XBOX app in order to stream from your console to your computer. The version I started with was 5.x, and the version required was 7.x, so it was confusing for a while.

Advertising where? I pretty much uninstalled most of the apps Windows 10 came with and I don't really use Cortana, so no ads for me!

It's not just cortana. Microsoft buries a lot of info in their privacy policy and service agreement that you might want to search through more thoroughly unlike many people who just skip them.

The data collection "features" are enabled by default and microsoft will not make it easy for you to disable them all but as others said, you can.

Not sure if those tips are permanent or if microsoft could decide to re-enable some of them after a patch, but personally, i would worry less with microsoft and more with what potential hackers could do with all those data collecting functions built-in the OS itself.

1) EVERYONE is collection data on you to tailor advertising. Go to newegg or amazon, look up for example mice, then go to facebook. You won't be happy if that's your concern.
2) You can turn off pretty much all of the tracking options.

You are missing the biggest of them all.
Google knows more about you then yourself.

I've had this issue with the launcher too, it's a pain. As for the second one, I use a controller and it works beautifully, I love being able to access recording options by pressing my controller home button and actually being able to control it with my controller. having this new easy recording option for free is a great addition for me.
The major issue I've had is that since I updated I've had this strange lag where my game just freezes for a split second, it's very quick and for the most part I barely notice it, but it has gotten me killed by weight of the land before.

You can and SHOULD go into the settings area and disable all of this.

Thanks for replies, think I'll hold off for a while. Give it more time for bugs to iron out on it I guess. I'm pretty big on privacy though... Its starting to sound like I'm going to hate this new version of windows. Gonna make sure I double check this thread for the spying/advertisement advice before upgrading.

I do homework on this rig but its usually just simple papers. There are programs on here that I use very irregularly though that are listed as needing to be uninstalled before I can upgrade. Bugs me but I haven't checked to see if they have a new version out that is supported.

Truth be told, Windows 10 isn't really an option you can refuse. Older versions of Windows will be phased out over the next few years and software will stop functioning on those OSes as they start to utilize new features of Windows.
Sure, you can go back and cling onto Windows XP for another ten years, but then it's squarely on you when things stop working and no one wants to provide tech support for you.
