Very true. I'm using my experiences as an example though because I've only played F2P and B2P MMOs prior to this. It's hard for me to excuse so many of the issues this game has when the others did not have nearly as many serious, glaring issues. Especially when this game has a guaranteed profit via subscriptions, and those did not. I really don't want to see a flavor of the month, or even at times unpopular F2P game outdo a highly successful subscription MMO in too many ways.

After seeing cash shops destroy the fun in those games (Yes, I'm referring to vanity too. Not being able to look as cool by playing the game and achieving things vs people who spent on the cash shop and instantly looked cooler then you really got old....result of cash shop vanity), coming to FFXIV was really amazing. No cash shop, everything obtainable in game, an almost completely even playing field in every aspect....it was a beautiful sight for me. Then the cash shop debuted with its exclusive mount and minions. Then EB. Then exclusive dyes. I see an all too familiar MMO pattern/trend being taking root in the game and it's irked me more and more every time something else is added, especially something exclusive.

Yeah, not having a particular shade of color to your armor or a minion following you around can really ruin your FFXIV gaming experience.

So the only things that was trule non-ingame are the Paints, Minions (some were event minions tho), Sleipnir mount, Fantasia Potions, the Moonlet earring (if I recall it's from 1.0) and the Wedding bands (basic one is free tho). The rest was free during events.

Your sarcasm and baseless hyperbole is noted. I'd rather not have FFXIV end up like those MMOs, where most of the new gear designs come to the cash shop and are noticeably higher quality than the ones that come from in game play, and things that were formerly developed as obtainable in game (such as dyes) have new variants that are just stuck on the cash shop for no reason other than "I want your money". Maybe that's just me. If allowed to do so, you can bet it will be done by SE.

Also, not sure why you think vanity isn't important to some people, because it is. Who are you to tell anyone what they should define as their gameplay experience or what they should enjoy? Achievements, collecting things, making things....those are part of the gameplay experience. And when minions (that could have been gotten from achievements in game) or dyes (that could have been made craftable, even with rare/expensive ingredients if need be) are added to the cash shop rather than to the game, gameplay and to a small but cumulative degree, subscription value, do start to suffer to make way for instant gratification. Think outside of the box.

Yeah, that's why I mentioned exclusive items particularly bother me. The event items being on there don't bother me as much...but seeing as previous events offered old event items as rewards, it makes little sense to me why some have to be on the cash shop now. There are many ways they could have added old event items to the game without bringing in a cash shop (such as using special leves during seasonal event times, leves that offer old items or tokens for them), or they could have just left them seasonal event exclusive. Despite what some people say, and as unfortunate as it is that some people would be left out, maintaining promised, limited time in-game item exclusivity has its own perks for the community as a whole.

If they were going to throw exclusivity out the window (as in make event items everyone thought were obtainable for a limited time be obtainable afterwards), they could have done so without utilizing the cash shop. That was the easy, profitable option, not the fairest or most rewarding option for the player.

Yeah, before they had a special vendor that sold old event items. I too used that vendor for the first years event items since I started playing close to when ARR was 1 year. If I recall the shop first came to life due to the huge demand on the option to buy Fantasia potions, and I guess that later they wanted something to fill the shop.

The fantasia thing was a really disappointing read for me :/. I wish people had been more thoughtful about ways to get fantasia in game, if not exclusively, then as an option at least.

Especially since my last MMO, The Secret World, allowed you to use a nice big chunk of in game money to change anything you wanted about your character. About the equivalent of a million gil or so I'd say. They also had the option to pay real money (about 4 dollars or so IIRC) to buy a coupon to do it.

I really wish we had the option at least to spend gil to fantasia.

They aren't there, yet. Other MMOs didn't start at their points immediately either though, yet they got there. How? Because people turned a blind eye to the slow steps they took towards that point. The same thing will happen here if allowed. I'd prefer not waiting until it's too late to start voicing discontent, personally.

The dyes are actually cash shop exclusive, so I think you're misinformed. Metallic red, blue, etc are not from ventures.

The minions may not be quite vanity, but they are collectible, and instead of being associated with "I spent 2 dollars on this", could have been made to be associated with "I spent 500,000 gil on this", or "I killed 500 morbols for this", etc.

Tell me, do you see metallic red, metallic blue, or metallic green in that list you just linked?

You should look at the links you post before you post them >_>. You just proved yourself wrong!

You literally just proved that the metallic red blue green are not there. They are cash shop only. You cannot even buy them with the RaF feathers or anything.
