in ffxi the exp groups was just a big a part of the game as endgame was, u did that alot, it took a long time per class to reach it's max, and then they added merits on top of that. this game is a little bit lenient but it's pretty much looks like it working it's way to be the same where exp is just as important and time consuming. it needs to be a very fun process like in ffxi, it was very fun, games with just quest grind in a week and done might as well just start u off at max level and jump u right into u'r 2times a week raids so u can just log in twice a week and feels good man. but this game shouldn't be that route, ffxi wasn't and if it changes some of the best mechanics from ffxi i don't think this game would succeed either way, most ffxi fans witch is majority of the base by now that is left would probably leave too. i know i would, theres just way too many mmo's like this, quests for a few weeks and done stuff and this game don't provide anything on top of that to enjoy. fact i think i'd spite se for going the route of easy peasy for cash and go with a diff game for sure...

on the hole exp party grind thing though i'd say the chaining of mobs was a great idea to add, they should go a bigger distance with this and make the mobs that come very very random. so it makes grinding very different ...pop in some really hard mobs in the mix, also add different class types to the mix, from anoying mage weapons like in moon type lol to imps. also i mention in many threads they need to also make all the mobs more dynamic, without this then we got grinds on wow quest mobs, where every mob we kill is the same so grinding from 1-max will be like killing 1 mob the whole time. witch is what it feels like to me right now. other then that i'm very happy that they bringing back the party grinds, i don't think i would of lasted a year without it in game. ....now add in party missions and full linkshell events and i'm yours se for another 5-7years and 700days of gameplay.

I'm going to start off by saying I am in favor of having a group grinding system in place. I was an avid XI player and loved exp groups (a major reason is probably because I had a static group of friends and didn't have to sit in Jueno for hours waiting) because they did take skill into account. My main was BLM that I lvl capped in the time when sky was new and actually used as valid content.

The idea that everything you fight to level in group gameplay can kill you very fast if someone screwed up is amazing and that is the idea they need to keep in group grinding, imo. XI ruined it when they allowed TP burn parties to continue because it made leveling faceroll status where everyone did whatever the hell they wanted to an imp and watched it die before the entire group could even reach the mob.

If they make group grinding like it was when teamwork was an essential aspect of the game that taught people how end game mechanics worked, then I think it would make for a more enjoyable game for everyone since new people won't be as inexperienced at the lvl cap as say... fresh 80s were in WoW.

Also, they need to keep a level of competition in grinding parties like they had in XI. There was always that one "sweet" camp everyone wanted to level at but could only sustain one group at a time. Then people had to move on to other camps that could handle more groups but had less favorable conditions. It made it so people weren't just killing monsters hour after hour, weapon skill after weapon skill. Sometimes you had to have multiple pullers, or even your entire group, going after the spawns to ensure that another group wouldn't successfully muscle you out of your camp.

You should ALWAYS be excited, i mean, you could have the rare possibility to group up with Gath.

You should be excited because people are actually grouping up together.

IT'S SOOOOO EASY TO RANK UP IN THIS GAME RIGHT NOW. Seriously, why need more quests? Or more of a focus on these leve quests now? IMO they should extend the time on levequests or make them much harder for the reward you are getting at the end. The mobs are a zergfest most of the time...

I've lost all interest in levelling up battle classes since leves and behests were made not worth doing. I'm 1.5 ranks away from Murderous Intent on my MRD and I want the skill for my ARC but I can't even bring myself to get that SP. I tried soloing a few leves last week and it was the most awful gameplay I've done since last year. The rewards on 30 leves weren't worth the effort it took to complete the leve and the rewards on 20 leves were pathetic too.

I've no interest in grind parties so I'm done with battle classes until they implement the alternative levelling methods that Yoshi P talked about once. I will probably go ahead and get those 1.5 ranks but after that I'm done.

Group grinding in FFXI taught me nothing about what it means to be a good BLM or WHM at end game, because we just plowed through mobs that weren't dangerous and died fast. It taught me nothing about Gravity/Bind/Sleep kiting, about carrying medications and poison potions with me, about MP conservation vs spam nuking/healing, etc. Everything that made me a good end-game BLM and WHM, I learned either from soloing (as a BLM, once people finally figured out that TP burn is the way to go) or from actually doing end-game (as a WHM).

Granted, soloing doesn't teach you much either, but at least you don't have to put up with not being the current flavor-of-the-month class, putting together groups, finding replacements, not finding a good grind camp, etc.
Yeah I would agree with this. When I was WHM on my very first FFXI character. I would sub ninja and go farm I think it was spider webbs in the boyada tree or something like that...can't remember...but anyways...that taught me how to be a really good WHM IMO. WHM is one of the hardest jobs at the time to do anything solo with...So I can see where you are coming from.

Also OP, I understand what you mean. I like leveling via a storyline kinda like in Dragon Age Origins. Nothing in that game feels like grinding. It's all fun! Why can't an MMO be like that when it comes to main story line?

Why can we not have it all? why do we have to fight back and forth? didnt s.e say they want to cater to all types of play? Befor we go on bashing each other why dont we wait and see what s.e has in store for us? maybe we can end up happy.
