You're suggestions would work great if everyone's play style was focused around the ilevel of an item, however to many (like myself) most item's value comes from its use for glamouring. Still other players use gear for collecting or desynthing. Your suggestions make it unfair for anyone who is seeking gear for any reason other than an ilevel boost, but the system the game has now keeps it fair for everyone. I prefer the system as it is now.

If you are looking for an item as iLevel upgrade, you actually NEED it. Thus you roll NEED on it.
If you want it for anything else, you don't NEED it, you WANT it. Thus you should GREED on it to make it fair.

Your glamour, or desynth, or collection reasons are just as "valuable" as gearing alts or expert delivery. Not to mention glamour for alts.

exactly what I wanted to say lol thank you.

and I mentioned in my OP but ill say it again, I am NOT against the current system, I simply explore with you guys other systems and why would they work and why wont they.
the only issue i have with the current system is that just because you match the item's class/job. you can need on it regardless if it will actually upgrade your stats or not. it is not cool for a level 60 PLD running "Leveling Roulette" to be able to NEED on PLD level 20 gear instantly denying anyone else the roll in the group since there is only one tank just because it looks good in glamour or because you want to convert it to GC seals.

This is a video game there are only Wants. Some player's focus is purely on stats, in which case their wants revolve around stats and levels. Some players focus on different things. Neither is more important than the other, they're only more or less important to individual players. The current system doesn't presume one way or another.

The proposed systems in this thread probably are more fair, yes, but only for one type of player. The system in place now is fair toward all play styles.

what about content gated for ilvl though. leveling doesnt get you there. Neither does the ninja who looks pretty.

I'm not sure I understand your point in relation to my post, could you expound on what you mean?

You get it. How is someone whos endgame is glamor less important? Only reason you need higher Ilvl is if you are needing it to access harder gated content. But still it does not give anyone a god given right to first dibs over someone whos playstyle is different than your own.

Eveyone needs on stuff they can for their own reasons, no ones is more important than anothers when you can EASILY avoid the disapointment of having to roll against other players by running content with friends that drops the gear you want.

glamour is something you want not something you NEED

should be rolled for as greed imo

too hard to enforce without causing unfair exceptions though...
