    Welcome to MMOs. The grind is a part of every MMO in existence. At least.. every successful MMO. They simply do it differently compared to one another.

    The grind is designed to keep you playing and thus keep your subscription active. Without it, SE would not make nearly as much money with XIV as they do.

    Plus, 8 hours all together out of, lets estimate 40 free time hours, isn't that bad. It also makes sense since MMOs are designed to be time sinks.

    The amount of time I need to put into gathering (lets not forget crafting) dwarfs the other parts of this game. Isn't the red script cap there so people like me don't get left behind (and I play a lot compared to most)?

    The cap doesn't bother me tbh. It's the 8 scripts per turn in.

Great example is if you farm adamantite ore alone with the proper gear, you could get 2 (potentially 3 if your rng is good with the optimal rotation) which leads to 16 red scrips a half hour, 32 an hour. Translates to 14 hours altogether (and not of sheer effort mind you, only takes about a minute or two to gather the ACTUAL material) in 7 days. If you pace yourself, where its equally spread out within that week (2 hours within a 24 hour day, not accounting for work and other such activities you plan to do), the effort isn't much.

In fact, I love XIV because I think it is an MMO which is properly designed by a developer like SE which listens to the community and throws them quite a few bones while sticking to a plan to be a solvent corporation.
