No thanks. I don't want language restricted servers.
I think a lot of Japanese players don't like the fact that English speakers are playing on the same server, but the ones I've run into during behest have been quite content to do behest with non-Japanese players.
I think as long as we're respectful, the Japanese players will not mind being on the same server as us. Westerners have a tendency to be more....straight forward? Something than can probably be misread as rude. (And then there are the cases where people really are rude.)

I'm sure there are English speakers that want their own server as well.

Personally, I enjoy that the servers are non-language restricted. It gives a more global community feel when you log on and see people typing in Japanese, English, Chinese, German, French and so forth.

I'd like to believe that none of my LS friends would want to move to Japanese only servers. ><

If you ask, I think most Japanese will say they wish they could speak English because they want to communicate with more people and make new friends.

I'd be against it because no one can and should block themselves off from the rest of the world, we need to learn to work together and respect one another. If people can't handle that in a simple online game, then it makes me wonder how they handle it when faced with it in real life.

Also because I would loose many of my friends from all over the world, and no longer be able to play with them. Thats also a reason why I think SE won't split servers, many shells are mixes of people from all regions, not just one region. If they made area specific servers and broke up all the people and LS's I'm sure a lot of people would consider no longer playing because they have been split from their shell... I don't know if I would keep playing.

That is one of the draws of this game that others don't have, international servers and I am used to being on international servers seeing I spent 6 years on FFXI and enjoyed it greatly. I love learning the cultures of all the different people that I meet, how they understand things and how they do things... Our shell loves to help one another and we even have a EU member that wanted to learn more English so we started helping him, and we were just saying a day or two ago how much more he understands and how great he's doing!

Also I always try to be polite, everyone comes from a different culture and if we play with them or not we should be respecting their culture anyway. I think our server is very nice, and a few days before the server went down one of our EU players and a JP player from another shell we know were working together, shouting in English and their own languages, to get a party going. Also the JP players I have met or played with seem very kind and didn't seem to have any problem playing with people from other countries. This is how it should be, all people working together for one goal... not separated.

Edit: Also has anyone else had any problem with RMT, seeing Reika said the JP are? I can honestly say I haven't been contacted once while in game by a RMT... I think I've seen them running around but I never hear them spamming or get /tells from them.

The thing that concerns me most is the feeling that some English speaking players are 独善 (self righteous) which is also not true much of the time.

On Saronia there have been a few isolated "incidents" that I know of, but for the most part I think people are pretty good about playing with people from other countries and across language barriers.
I wish my Japanese was good enough to read it (I'm only N5).

As an American, I can say that by Japanese standards (and admittingly a lot of the world) American culture is rude. Most Americans will try to be polite culturally though, and if they know what they should do to show politeness, they will. There are, however, a good deal of gamers who are very rude even by American standards. I'm a little concerned when this game gets mainstream... I want the community here to stay nice like this.

In my experience, RMT's are definitely not English native. It's too bad they're giving us a bad reputation from it...

So true. I wish the rude and the RMT would stop giving good people a bad name. And the sad thing is, I KNOW of some people on my server that are extremely rude, and would not allow them to talk to any of my friends. My friends know my feelings.

This is me >.< I'm nervous about my limited Japanese to try to say anything, and while it might not seem like it on the forums, I'm shy in general. :P

Also, I agree with KaiKatzchen's post. I would like to see that happen.

It is said that the foreign RMT were a major problem and annoyance in FFXI, and that they would not like the chance to experience it in FFXIV

the only possible for language seperate is server place at different country, as a german server, french and etc.

While I am against server seperate by language (cos its just racist act) but I do want a server place in Eu for better ping, I am sure most of you know, even the ping of server say 60 but the fact your ping will be 200-300 with good connection if you connect from Eu to Japan and that cause animation lag, slow responce while use skill (if you pay attention to that), I am major crafter but I do DoW once in a while and get very anoying cos of the delay

Seperate servers is one thing I dislike about most games. I like ff mixed servers. DCUO ended up i guess mixing their servers cuz EU was so low.

As for lag, i barely saw any difference between playing WoW on a east coast or a west coast US server or ffxi. Of course it being 1 was pc and the other the ps2/360.

My fave moment with japanese was in ffxi. The day the first abyssea addon was added, I got invited to a jp mana burn party. We was in xarcabard [s] and that dragon kept killing us. (the one that flew) Anway I completely sucked at pulling. I was dnc and was not familar with that area. I felt so stupid and embarrassed. They never kicked me out. I appologised for my bad pulling. they got someone else to pull but let me stay.

They had every right to kick me and didn't. Maybe because I was nice and was a fat head.
