Please let us *really* ride airships

Hello, adventurers.

I read Yoshida-san's latest letter and I'm surprised that, if I understood correctly, we won't actually be able to ride airships, but there will only be two cutscenes for departure and arrival.

Now, I can understand that many adventurers would like to have a faster way to travel between cities... but this is way too fast, in my opinion...!

I'm opening this Topic because I don't see any plan to change this in patch 1.20 and 1.21, and I'd really like to properly ride an airship and enjoy my trip in Eorzea's skies with other adventurers. I had already imagined it and all, staring at the landscape and gazing upon sunsets and dawns from above, with a Great music in the background.

Will such a feature be implemented after patch 1.21?

As I'm sure other adventurers also have this desire, let the dev team hear your voice here if you wish.

I would like some travel time but not too much, also Airships shouldn't be in 10 minute intervals like they was in XI that was so dumb if you just missed the ship you had to stand around for 10 minutes and wait. Usually was afk auto run time, hopefully it will be more like 3-5 min intervals and then down the road maybe a 2 minute travel time.

Actually I am hoping that when they release Player run companies and company ships that is when I hope to see all those airports located in different places around Eorzea be used and hopefully we will have travel time there. Something about riding in an Airship with nothing but your LS mates sounds pretty wicked.

Well, one would hope that when they do remove the convenience, they'll have the wisdom to take it with one hand and give additional content (special battles and shops, notorious monster attacks, etc) with the other.

I do hope so.
There are so many good ideas they can put into airships in the future, when they have time.
Eventually, I would like to see airship battles and long distance travel to other continents. (Travel that takes more than a few minutes! o_o lol. I mean.. traveling the world! X3)

I didn't mean to sound so negative or anything. I'm just disappointed is all. I clearly missed that airships would just be instant travel at first, and all this instant travel really gets me down. XD
So.. I may try it out once to check out the cut-scene, but I'll be finding other methods of travel until airships are actually interesting to me.

I'm hoping that they add content bassed around airship travel, as mentioned in another thread "Sky pirates" would be cool . in the mean time imo instant traval is better then no airships. i have no doubt that instant traval will be done away with in the near future, and this instant traval is probably only down to time constraints on getting it ready for 1.19.

instant traval is nothing new this was the case in FFXI at one point (not airships as far as i know, but the boats) and it still happens (not often) when they do maintanance on them.

It depends how many times you see that background, if daily or if once in a while: I take the ferry every now and then and I like it (but yeah, the trip might last a bit less). I also like to stare at every sunset or dawn I see, saw dozens of them and could never get enough. But that's another story.

Thanks, Chrees! I completely forgot about those posts, so having read this from Yoshida himself answers my concern.

Well, at least, to anyone else that like me didn't know it, now we know that sooner or later they'll implement a real airship travel, and I can't wait to gaze upon Eorzea from high above the skies.

So for now airships will only be an alternative to Anima. We'll just have to wait some more for the real travel... Until when? Well, surely past patch 1.21, I'm afraid; maybe in one of the next Yoshi's letters he will give us a more precise schedule, relating also to the map redesign.

Also, I'll look forward to the other ideas mentioned here and in the second link above by Yoshida himself, about certain things that might happen while onboard the airship: that would be cool.

You don't notice it on the 100th time because you're too busy trying to run your character up onto the railing without going over.

Does anyone miss that feeling of accomplishment from completing the Rank 5 nation quest in XI and getting your airship pass, and then riding it for the first time? It was just one of the many mini goals in that game separate from leveling that kept me playing for so many years. Just handing us an instant airship with a couple cut scenes thrown in doesn't mean anything to me because I always have the anima to teleport to the nations when I need to go to them anyway.

Anyone remember the passenger mini quest in XI that you complete while riding the airship? Missing things like that just makes XIV feel like a watered down version of XI in every way. In XI we get an adventure, but in XIV we get a cut scene.

haha i must be the only one in the world that doesnt enjoy the trip to my destination.
FFXI was my first and only MMO for years. i tried out a WoW private server at some point and took an airship to.... ulduar? anyway the flight was instant and i practically orgasmed. it was so nice and refreshing to not have to deal with an entire 20 minutes for a boat ride or an airship ride. the wait for boats and airships to arrive in FFXI was ridiculous.
